I worked at Subway part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Flexible part time hours, they were always happy to work with me and accommodate my class schedule. My managers were always nice to me. The district manager trusted us enough to work out our own shift swaps, and were good about any feedback or issues we had.

    Cons

The biggest thing I saw, the reason I never pushed for a promotion, was that I saw the benefits to being promoted- to shift leader or manager, as nothing compared to the added stress. Shift leaders- who would be asked to open the store and do morning inventory (they'd usually come around 5:30 or 6) and train new employees, would only see a $0.06 raise, and while the managers would receive a significant pay bump, I saw several cases where co-workers didn't receive their manager's bonus for months after getting the promotion- while assuming all the responsibilities of a manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure to be straight with your employees- explain changes in policy, and if you promote someone, make sure that they get their benefits right away. Otherwise, you get unhappy staff, which then under perform or quit, and you gotta train someone else.

    I worked at Subway

    Pros

Fast paced, simple job that pays reasonably well compared to other fast food positions.

    Cons

Very customer specific in terms of how something is made.
Advancement is not possible due to Subway consisting entirely of franchisees. There is no movement through the corporate company through individual stores, if you wish to advance past a management position you will need to find an owner who owns multiple units etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider what the core focus of your product is. Diversification becomes excessive as I'm sure some have noticed with recent Subway promotions and new menu additions.

I worked at Subway part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Not many places in my small community are hiring. Subway is always hiring. This is a good job for single people with no children, such as students. Hands on training is meant to insure that everyone knows exactly what they are doing.

    Cons

Subway is always hiring because it has a very high turnover. The hours are awful--- I typically worked 15 hours a week (on minimum wage, of course.) The training was hit or miss, depending on who trained new hires and how many different people trained them. Because so many high school kids work there, there is also a lot of drama.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Raising wages and hiring people who have respect for their job and community to be shift leaders may increase the quality of the meals.
