  1. Good Temporary Job While in High School

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    I worked at Subway full-time

    Pros

    Management worked with my schedule.

    Cons

It can go from 0 to 100 real quick. You need to be prepared for a stressful and fast-paced environment, especially if scheduled to work alone which does happen especially at the store in Harts Run. This also happens if a co-worker calls in last minute, or (hopefully this doesn't happen to you) walks out in the middle of a busy shift. However, management tries to assist or send help when things get hectic.

    Pros

Get a free 6 inch with every shift. Easy work...

    Cons

If your a new employee you are basically a full on for people when they get sick and you don't get enough hours.

    Advice to Management

Don't yell at new people for no reason in Arabic, we have no idea what you are saying.

    Pros

    - decent coworkers and managers - on Wayne State Uni campus - a lot of hours for good employees

    Cons

    - A LOT OF WORK - student workers pay was $8.50/hr which is only 0.35 cents over minimum wage - favoritism to full-time employees - full-time employees who were friends with managers could get free food and other employees only got free drinks - no breaks for working 5 hour "lunch rush" shifts - part-time and student workers clean and got the worst work of vegetables, cleaning, prep and dishwashing while full-time got the easy work of cashier and meats - student workers made less than part-time and full-time workers per hour - student (most of our customers) and Aramark customers were the worst and very picky - working lunch rush sucked - my fingers always smelled like pickle juice and jalapeno juice after work - my clothes always smelled like the yeast in the bread - too many managers

    Advice to Management

    Stop playing favorites

    Pros

Easy job. I had a wonderful time while working there. I learned so many things and moved up from sandwich artist to manager in 3 years.

    Cons

pay is not great even for managers and no benefits.

    Advice to Management

Make sure you pay your employees. They won't work if they can't live off their wages.

    Pros

I had a mostly good experience the entire time I worked at Subway because I liked who I worked with. I think that overall as a fast food restaurant, it doesn't get much less stressful than working at a Subway. Can take breaks whenever you get down time. Depending on the manager, employees may often be able to eat free.

    Cons

Lunch rush can be stressful, ~2 hours of straight sandwich making. If your coworkers slack, then it makes things much harder. Managers can be harsh when trying to meet "their numbers." cutting hours, etc. Part time only, no benefits except for maybe a free meal per shift.

    Advice to Management

Payment is so low as it is. Make sure to give each employee a FULL meal per shift, footlong and meal deal.

I worked at Subway part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Subway had many of great customers , and employees. I learned how to great and talk to strangers. They also provided me with many skills such as cashier and prepare food. I had the opportunity too close the restaurant also.

    Cons

Many of the employees could not stay on track. I had to provide service that was not of my job description.

    Advice to Management

Keep personal life away from the work environment. Treat your employing as people not slaves.
