    Pros

People for the most part are awesome.

    Cons

    High stress & job demands

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff that carry out day to day operations.

    Pros

1-3. The organization is committed to providing great healthcare to the local population, and being engaged in the Akron area.
4--6.. Front line employees up through management really care about patient safety and improvising the patient's experience throughout the entire system.
    7. The employees who have stuck with Summa through the tough times over the past decade, are good people.
    8. I love that I'm encouraged to develop relationships with my patients and encouraged to advocate for them.
    9. I know of an employee who was set up by her supervisor and manger about five years ago. The employee went through HR, and eventually the legal department was involved. She thought they would just support the management team but once they investigated and discovered the set up, Summa made it right (she got an apology and her job back).

    Cons

    1. Management style is very old school and unable or unwilling to keep up with the rapid changes in the industry. (building more ERs than community clinics and after hour urgent care centers)
    2. System over-site of compliance issues is lax (CMS, Joint Commission have both found real issues that were minimized by management)
    3. Employee policies are often ignored when departments short staffed
    4. Senior Management is unable or unwilling to acknowledge and address patient care problems caused by reduced staffing levels.
    5. "DERP" effect - Management ignores events which expose system issues, and attack the messenger instead of taking advantage of the opportunity to address the root cause. (If this review were read by senior management they would be more interested in who wrote this than what is being said).
    6. Instead of focusing on the above items, management is rolling out a 1980s era dress code that is horrifying to anyone born after 1985.
7-10. Summa's stagnant wages and benefits are causing an ever widening gulf between Summa and the two major health systems in Cleveland, sucking up some of our best practitioners and staff!

    Advice to Management

I will revert to scrubs as much as possible, but female employees shouldn't be required to wear panty hose and closed toed shoes because it just reinforces the misogynistic attitude that women's bodies are dangerous and must be concealed. Even the nuns that work in our affiliated hospitals are wearing sandals and capries.

Please find better sources for your salary ranges, no matter what HR keeps telling us, our competitors are paying more for the work. Nothing says that an employer cares about their staff, solid pay and benefits. Our health insurance is a challenge for those of us who live to outside of the Akron to Wadsworth footprint. Maybe options by area so Northern Summit county residents can have access to UH or CCF services?

    Pros

Quality patient care given by talented people.

    Cons

They prefer younger workers and eliminated positions of older workers.

    Advice to Management

They should be more concerned with treating good performers well and less about getting their bonuses.

    Cons

Management not so great, got laid off

    Advice to Management

You should keep in mind that its all about the patient, you also need to keep in mind who takes care of each patient when you decide to lay people off.

    Pros

Pay is reasonable, stellar medical benefits
    Safe working environment
    Advancement opportunities
Ability to learn new things on the job and off

    Cons

Culture on each unit depends on the manager. Sometimes upper management is tone deaf to the workers. Its all about the bottom line and the mighty dollar. Staff feel like they do not count. Gave raises but then took away annual 401K end of year contributions. Really? Staff are not stupid, we can put two and two together to come up with four. That makes you look cheap.

    Advice to Management

Listen to staff complaints. Bring back overtime bonuses. Change the wow card compensation

    Pros

There is good commradere between fellow co-workers. Opportunity for personal and professional development exist. Pay was adequate, benefits were fair.

    Cons

No raises in over four years. In a contraction mode right now due to changes in reimbursement. Tends to overextend itself and then panic at the cost of employee careers.

    Advice to Management

Protect your employees. They are your most valuable asset.

    Pros

Got along well with coworkers and boss
Decent hourly wage for the work I was doing (college student)
Time and a half pay when you worked holidays
Paid time off and paid vacation time
Steady, consistent hours, MUCH better than my previous job!
Excellent benefits for even the lowest paid employees
Partial tuition reimbursement depending on your major

    Cons

Working 2 holidays a year and one weekend a month
Hard to take classes if you're a working student like I am
I was hired as part time but more often than not worked full time hours due to high turnover rates in my department and short staffing (janitorial staff)
    Working around sick people
VERY strict rules about calling off sick, being late, nitpicky staff. Can be quick to reprimand even if circumstances are unavoidable.
Some nights busier than others depending on how many patients are discharged

    Advice to Management

Lighten up on late/sick policy and don't be so quick to discipline
Benefits are great, but for hourly workers it can sometime cost half a paycheck each month
Revise the health exam so employees who do take benefits don't get charged extra for being considered unhealthy due to a very skewed rating system

    Pros

The people I worked with were great for the most part. I miss the patients and I give props to all the ICU nurses.

    Cons

Your voice as an employee is not heard by management, at least from my experience.
