I worked at Summa Health System part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

good employee benefits, you received your schedule for the whole month instead of just one or two weeks, clear policies, uniforms provided for the EVS staff, understanding and responsive EVS managers, advancement within summa possible

    Cons

Provided uniforms were oversized men's sizes, so if you are a petite female, they will be too big and you will have to get the pants hemmed. Fear of layoffs. Pay could be better. Upper management caused serious stress for lower management. Tuition assistance is provided, but your manager (at least in my department) is not allowed to adjust your schedule each semester so you can attend class. If you need a specialty class that is only available during one of your workdays, you are SOL. No switching days with another employee allowed. I'm also not too sure about these new policies...

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging your good employees! Cut upper level bonuses and hire more nurses and aides! Patient ratings went down due to the layoffs and a subsequent high patient-nurse ratio, not colorful scrubs and 401k contributions. Also, why bother with all the recent renovations to make the place more modern and cheery if you were just going to make the nursing staff wear black and gray? It will look like a funeral, which will be hard a patient's mental state, and in turn inhibit the healing process. Summa hospitals will not be a happy place. I certainly hope Summa pays for the new wardrobe these employees will require.

    Cons

To be honest, the overall bonus is just fine, I would like not to recommend the company to my friends.

    Advice to Management

Increase the overall bonus and keep the working environment, I would like not to recommend the company to my friends.

I worked at Summa Health System full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Summa has a wonderful work environment, my team really became my family away from home. This system is extremely family oriented and understood anytime I had an issue arise. Team work is key within Summa, everyone pitches in to get the task at hand completed.

    Cons

The salary is not competitive and the new dress code is intense if you're a female.

    Advice to Management

Stress the importance of growing within the company, this was rarely addressed when I was there.

    Pros

Good way to get your door in health care. Good way to earn overtime Understaffed easy money If you want a consistent paycheck to get by this place is perfect.

    Cons

Management doesn't care about you or your advancement. Yes, we like getting pay checks but there should also be opportunities to learn and further your career and resume! Hard to move up Lack of learning opportunities Small place with so many haters

Take care of your employees and they'll do a better job at work.
