I have been working at Sun Life full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Enthusiastic employees willing to do what it takes to get the job done. Nice benefits, and work hour flexibility. Up to date with technology - like iPads and iPhones.

    Cons

Systems are antiquated. Makes getting the job done difficult and time intensive. Legacy systems don't talk to each other and the result is that the customer suffers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in updating the systems. Look into six sigma process improvement to move the dial effectively.

    Pros

Open, inclusive, exciting (as only an underwriter could understand), smart peers, upper management.

    Cons

communication could be better betw management levels, major changes (regional or., system and pricing methodology) changes tend to occur near or at 4Q business cycle. Sun Life- this yr- seems to be addressing this (ie, thinking ahead).

I worked at Sun Life full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Flexible work environment. Great employees to work with. Everyone worked very well together to get the job done at the end of the day. Created lasting friendships within the industry at this job.

    Cons

Since I worked in the field it was impossible to move up within the company. It was ultimately the reason I left. Annual raises were only the cost of living. The job itself often went above the actual job description.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The field has some great employees which I know are being cut and positions are being moved to the Home Office. I don't agree with this idea and hope it works out.

Learning opportunities eventually ended. Got into a monotonous routine are after a short time of employment. Day to day work is generally the same. Not very much room to grow.

I worked at Sun Life full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Sun Life is a great place to work, with great benefits and lots of opportunities for career growth. The people are wonderful and the atmosphere is like a family setting. Great collaboration among teams and management allowing individuals to excel and grow.

    Cons

Laid off 30% of staff this year and lost a lot of talented employees in the process. The company politics can be frustrating and challenging in getting things done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realizing that its the bottom dollar vs retaining talented and experienced employees is your goals, you lost a lot of wonderful people in the layoffs that would off actually saved you money in the long run.
