    Sun is setting. Period.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsSun is a great engineering and technology company. If you are an Engineer without too much desire in promotion, join this company. It treats engineers well. Of course, I don't think there will be more opportunities now with Sun. Also, very beautiful campus in Santa Clara.

ConsI don't understand how this company is run / operated. I have no idea how good or bad the senior management is due to lack of direct interaction, but the mid management is terrible as I can feel from my own experience. This company should've already been out of business years ago (latest by 2005) but I guess the sale of real estates / properties to some extent supported the life. Also a lot of good politics players. Terrible operations.

Advice to Senior ManagementI think I offered some recommendations and nobody really cared about. Nobody would rebell from within (to overturn himself when he is in a ruling position? no way) and only thing that could change this company is some external force - like an acquisition that is taking place now. I foresaw this long time before the official announcement of acquisition.

Sun is a relic of the past - it is not what it was a decade ago

    Director (Former Employee) Bangalore (India)

ProsThe work culture can be pretty casual and open. Hours are flexible.

ConsManagers can be tyrannic, ad-hoc, and downright prejudiced/ hostile. There are no internal checks and balances to avoid this. You are fine so long as you are in the good books of your manager. Performance and personal achievements are secondary.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere is no leadership any more. Sunset.

    Frustrated

Pre-Sales Systems Engineer (Current Employee) M√ľnichham (Germany)

ProsFinally Sun has a good product portfolio again.

ConsThere is a big gap between what our top level management communicates and what our mid and lower level management does. My direct management and the one one level below the country manager do not care about the company. They simply follow orders in such a way as to best prepare themselves for what might happen in the future. It is not about what is best for the company it is about what is best for them thus demotivating people like me.

Advice to Senior ManagementOur top level management should listen more closely to those who are in direct contact with the customer. If our mid and lower level management cannot motivate us then tlm has to step in and do something about it. Just imagine having a motivated sales, pre-sales and service force out there in the field.
