    Great Place to work

Business Technologist (Current Employee) Broomfield, CO

    ProsPositive Working environment
    Emphasized employee retention
Resources allocated to training and advancement

    Conscompany was continuously in flux
Had a required class called "managing Change"

Advice to Senior ManagementNow that it has been absorbed into Oracle things should be fairly stable, but I hope it hasn't lost that cool vibe of caring for all the employees and valuing their contributions.

Great place to work, too bad it's gone

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Santa Clara, CA

ProsSun Microsystems was a really great place to work from many perspectives: real offices, with doors and walls that went to the ceilings, great corporate culture, its embrace of telecommuting, the beautiful (Rivermark) campus, above-average compensation.

ConsI wish Sun's executives had been able to make the hard decisions (cutting people's pet but money-losing, non-strategic projects in favor of profitable or strategic projects) that were necessary to survive.

Advice to Senior ManagementSun Microsystems is gone, so offering advice to management is kind of pointless now, isn't it?

Was a Great Place to work

Services Sales Manager (Former Employee) Menlo Park, CA

ProsGreat people, excellent products and lots of passion to changing the world

ConsSome of the executives could not understand what the company was about
Tried to get into too many and different areas instead of focusing on core - i.e. StorageTek acquisition, buying middleware companies

Advice to Senior ManagementToo late to tell them anything

Great company providing satisfying and challenging work

Program Manager (Former Employee) Broomfield, CO

ProsWork from home flexibility, great work-life balance, no travel was required, the pay and benefits were excellent, team members were nice to work with, the Broomfield campus was very nice with a cafeteria providing a variety of menu/cuisine options.

ConsDistributed teams in varying time zones made it difficult to get everyone on the phone for a meeting at the same time.

Advice to Senior ManagementDirectors, VPs and other execs needed to co-mingle with the worker bees more than they did. Come down from their ivory tower every so often to see what was really going on in their organization.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
