My experience at Sungard was good

Monitoring Technician I (Former Employee)
Thornton, CO

I worked at SunGard Availability Services full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe company offers tons of technology to play with and lots of opportunities for growth. The wages are competitive and there are several career paths available.

ConsGetting the right tools in place seemed to be the most challenging and frustrating part of the job to a point that it became quite inefficient as a simple task went from a 5 step process to a 10 step process.

Advice to Senior ManagementUpper management needs to get the right leadership in place and establish a sense of direction so employees don't feel shepherdless.

No Personal Complaints

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Houston, TX

I worked at SunGard Availability Services full-time

ProsGood Compensation/Benefits. Most managers are very flexible with working from home along with not being too stringent concerning strict daily hours - when you come into the office or leave for the day, as well as how long you take for lunch.
They try to have department activities outside of the office for team building.

ConsNot all departments/managers are created equal. Some are overworked & stress levels run very high - other departments have very little to do and appear to have a very stress free atmosphere.

Great Company in Great Industry

Administrative (Former Employee)
Wayne, PA

I worked at SunGard Availability Services full-time for more than 5 years

ProsI worked at SunGard Availability Services for over 5 years and have worked with some of the brightest, dedicated people.

ConsManagement turnover can be a good thing or a bad thing. When management decides to re-invent the wheel, things can go wrong, terribly wrong.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a walk down the corporate ladder and meet your people. If you don't know your people, how can you expect to lead them? Share your ideas and your vision, and inspire them.

Joining Sungard is the best career move a network engineer can make.

Senior Network Engineer (Current Employee)
Charlotte, NC

I have been working at SunGard Availability Services full-time for more than 3 years

ProsSungard Employees - 'nuff said. :)

Experience - you will be working on multiple networks and every kind of network equipment out there: firewalls, load balancers, switches, routers, WAN acceleration devices, etc. You will take your career, skills and professional competency to a new level. You will be given all the responsibilty you can handle and will learn both the technical and the business side of IT. If you are a performance and results-oriented person, there is no limit to how far you can go in this company.

Compensation and Benefits - While everyone wants to make more money my salary is a little higher than most engineers in this area of the country. Add the fact that I get to work from home (Sungard is very much pro-telecommuting) and it is a slam dunk. The benefits, notably the medical benefits and the employee costs, are some of the best I've seen.

Formal Training - If you are responsible for a certain type of technology you will be trained on it and reimbursed for the certification tests that you pass.

Cons- The expense reimbursement system needs to be overhauled. Most tend to avoid getting entangled in it and this results in far less face-to-face meetings with the customer by engineers.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow much more interaction between the sales people and the engineers.
