    Pros

People - very smart and mostly helpful. Lots of modern tools.

    Cons

Work life balance is terrible. It's OK - not to be working as long as your phone and laptop are handy. Expectation is that your life if now dedicated to the customer - not just you work day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't burn people out. Spend the money to get enough help.

    Pros

The best parts of my experience was, 1) my co-workers and 2) the contact with our clients and the praise we were given by them for the great customer service our department provided.

    Cons

SunGard has a bad habit of cutting staff at quarter end to meet their budget and if you are not on the ark then watch out the waters get choppy.
A lot of smoke and mirrors with SunGard management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They should keep the promises they make and really listen to their people on front lines and not the middle managers (and some upper managers) who are out to save themselves and their personal minions.

    Pros

The people were talented and skilled in their positions and eager to share their expertise and bringing a new employee up to speed. The technology was mostly up to date and properly managed.

    Cons

Upper management was unsure of what direction the company was headed, too many divisions (the result of mergers and acquisitions) made movement in the company difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reorganize the company based on industry sectors, merge and sell-off the unprofitable divisions and concentrate the remaining resources on the profitable areas.

    Pros

Relation with colleagues were rather good.
It's a very good stepping stone for learning the Financial industry business products from Sungard as you have access to a lot of information that client can't have

    Cons

Lack of share of information internally about company strategy
    Attitude with client
    Unbalanced pool of resources
Weirdly some products are over priced / service and others don't get the level of revenue allowing the adequate level of resources.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More attention to client satisfaction by product.

    Pros

Loved my colleagues, many exceptional engineers.

    Cons

Lower management is petty and plays favorites while upper managements only concern is to make sure that the Blackstone group gets it's cut.
    Soul crushing on-call
Good old boy mentality with director level management and above.
Aging architecture doesn't really align with it's wanting to be state of the art.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend the money to bring in the right tools and technology or sell the business to someone who will.

Former Employee - Consultant in Birmingham, AL

    Pros

    - The people I worked with on a daily basis were great.
    - Process and Procedures were well documented and clear. Human Resources "stuff" was always easy to take care of.
    - Benefits and PTO are very good.

    Cons

    - Management (middle and senior level) cannot see past themselves. I am not sure if this "closed minded" philosophy is dictated from the Executive Team, but it exist across multiple segments.
-Failure to reward employees with a pay raise. In my 5 years, never received more then a cost of living raise

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reconsider the philosophy for performance reviews. The current reviews were a joke and provide zero road map for development.
