    Not great but getting better

IT Manager (Current Employee) Birmingham, AL

ProsGreat benefits - generous vacation policy. They seem to have finally heard the complaints of a dissatisfied workforce and are making changes for the better.

ConsLow wages and no raises. No opportunities for upward movement. Both of these are driven by our continual loss of customers to competitors.

Advice to Senior ManagementQuit reorganizing; Focus on Customer Service and new products. Stop nickel and diming. How hard should it be for a developed to acquire a $25 piece of software that will enhance productivity.

    Good company, lot of change

HRBP (Current Employee) San Francisco, CA

ProsDuring my tenure with SunGard, the management team put a lot of programs and processes into place that helped employees grow and develop. The team truly understood where they were going and how to achieve the next level.

ConsThe constant change with little to no employee communication made it difficult to focus as you were always wondering when the ax was going to fall.

Overall SunGard has been a good company to work for

Consultant (Current Employee) New York, NY

Prosone of the best things that I like working for SunGard is their flexibility in work schedules and their understanding of the balance of work and family. They do that better then any other company I have worked for.

ConsIn certain areas growth is not the easiest, the structure is more flat which is bad and good but makes climbing the corporate ladder difficult.

It is OK, but not great.

Business Analyst (Current Employee) Wayne, PA

ProsThe working environment is good and the benefit is sort of acceptable. It is OK to start and be there for couple of years.

ConsGrowth opportunity is limited. Management doe not really have clear vision for the employee. Sometime feels like management does not want to see you grow. You won't get the position until you leave the job. The management feeling appears like daily job is going OK, so why need to promote someone.

Advice to Senior ManagementI believe employees should be rewarded when they are loyal to the company and do good work. If someone is not qualified for the next level, there should be some program to prepare her/him for that, therwise why the employee would stick with the company. The career growth should be clearly defined for the employee, otherwise talented people will always make this comany as a station to move somewhere else.

More work needed to foster equal treatment of all employees.

Project Manager (Former Employee) Birmingham, AL

Pros-Close relationships with colleagues almost family like
    -Fosters Team atmosphere
    -Mature operations processes
-Company works to preparing newcomers to the industry

ConsThere seems to be an inside group that gets special treatment and appears to be immune to the potential downside of the business.

Advice to Senior ManagementEliminate the perceived 'in-crowd' so that all employees can feel that they have equal footing with all other employees. This will go a long way to fostering more loyalty and in the long term better employees.

Overall a good place to work

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Burlington, VT

ProsSungard has great benefits and is extremely understanding about taking vacation and leave. The pay is adequate and the people you work with are generally good people

ConsWork can be very boring. My particular sector doesn't have a lot of room for advancement. There can be infighting

Advice to Senior ManagementI think Sungard should offer some sort of team building exercises or trips somewhere. Maybe just one or two days a year where the message is about fun.

    Caught up in a RIF

Director Level (Former Employee) Birmingham, AL

ProsGain great work experience and changeling jobs. You can learn a lot but can also work very hard. Some positions require a lot of travel and bosses don't always take that into consideration.

ConsManagement quick to lay off to make numbers and get their bonuses.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake good care of you loyal and good people.

    Too much consolidation

Director (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsDecent benefits. However, the work environment varies drastically depending on which division you are in. If you are lucky, you can work with hard working, highly skilled people. SunGard is large and hence there are opportunities to advance if you are willing to look beyond your own unit.

ConsToo quick to layoff in order to make their numbers. Consolidation and layoffs are eliminating many solid employees, leaving those left overworked and overstretched. Consolidation is happening faster than remaining employees can obtain the skills and industry/product knowledge to cover new tasks.

Advice to Senior ManagementSenior management at the division level needs to better understand the business model of the products under them. While standard practices can lead to some efficiencies, remember that an acquired company was doing something right prior to acquisition.

    Run, don't walk.

Manager (Former Employee) Lake Mary, FL

ProsWell, after thinking of something positive to say about Sungard, I can confidentially say that the paychecks were always deposited on time.

ConsLow pay, poor benefits, lackluster support from senior management. I can go on.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart over from scratch.

Work here if you like long hours and low pay checks

    Consultant (Current Employee) Wayne, PA

ProsCould not ask for a better group of people to work with.

ConsLong hours with no compensation. The pay is very low when compared to the industry standards. Many jobs being outsourced to India. No formal training of any kind on any systems used in the day to day job. Many tasks are boring and relate nothing to the business what so ever. Management is often times too busy on the phone to help out thier employees. Spend hours upon hours playing phone tag with other departments and business units.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to learn how to manage people better. Management needs to realize that people have lives outside of work. They also need to start paying people for overtime, comp days just arent going to cut it for the amount of work that people do around here.
