I worked at SunTrust full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The pay was good. I liked that they paid good benefits such as vacation and holidays, insurance standard

    Cons

Pressured sales, lost customer loyalty all about pushing products

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too late, you have lost a lot of your long term employees, in the end the customers, "clients" see this and choose to go to another more personalized bank, like SunTrust was four years ago

I have been working at SunTrust full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Good benefits, established company, respected upper management

    Cons

IT has been outsourcing to India for a number of years and the trend is growing. There seems to be a bias toward offering new staffing opportunities to outsourcing companies based in India despite quality and efficiency issues. Currently 40% of IT delivery resources working across SunTrust's US locations are from India. And virtually all resources placed in US offices by the India-based vendors are there on a visa. This does not reflect the market distribution in those cities for available talent. Finally SunTrust has an Indian CIO and many in IT management. So read between the lines.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be up front and honest about your plans to plans to outsource.

I worked at SunTrust full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

SunTrust does offer good job security, when my position was eliminated I was offered an opportunity to move to another department the following day. Department managers in my experience did their best to work with employees.

    Cons

From what I was seeing when I left SunTrust they were not a healthy company. Cut backs on staff to barley addiquit, lose of benefits and perks where gone. Like the company stopped supplying coffee and were asking employees to come up with ways to cut coasts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop trying to compete with the big banks, stream line the organization better and treat your employees better.

I worked at SunTrust full-time for less than a year

    Pros

working in downtown Atlanta you may come across famous customers, and there are some perks here and there that may come from business customers.

    Cons

I'm not sure it this can apply to the whole company, but the branch I worked at was one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a job. Working with the customers and the cash handling was the easy part. The branch, however, has high turnover. The manager was amicable with subordinates but then very condescending. At one point the branch only had three people- manager, lead teller, and teller. The branch manager would leave early some days leaving just the lead teller and teller. If you didn't leave the premises for lunch and just went to the break room to eat, it was likely that the manager would call you in the middle of your lunch to come out to the window (or get mad if you stayed off premises the whole lunch break). It was very stressful. Started to get muscle spasms that the doctor said could have been linked to stress. There was no work-life balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Scrutinize branch when multiple people leave within less than a month of each other. It's very important to care about customer but its also very important to care about your employees too.

I have been working at SunTrust

    Pros

I like helping customers with their transactions. The retirement plan is good because they match 5%. The hours are decent.

    Cons

Lately corporate has made employees become telemarketers and sales people. They are more interested in #'s instead of the client. Salaries are not competitive. We are always short staffed and they keep putting more and more duties on us, which is very stressful! Too much pressure for what we get paid! People are quitting right and left. You can start out at a higher salary at Hobby Lobby than I make for over 20 Years Service at SUNTRUST.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Staff your branches with enough employees! Check salaries to make sure each employee is being paid according to their performance and years of service. Have sympathy for employees who are sick or having some type of personal issue.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

learn that happy employees actually will lead to bottom line growth. Get it right and stop carving up the company with a hatchet!

I have been working at SunTrust full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Tenured staff (which is changing), Steady banking hours

    Cons

Current market sales requirements are increasing constantly, even through the summer months which are typically slower for in branch traffic. This combined with strict financing guidelines (compared to my friends that work at BOA Wells Fargo,& Regions) can make production difficult. The corrective action policy is quite strict compared to years ago. Less than 100% of goal reached for one month results in corrective action which escalates quickly (warning, probation, fired). As a result I have seen a lot of long term employees leaving on their own accord as well as being let go. This can vary with market of course, however be sure to talk with employees in your market before applying.
