    Pros

Not many pros. Company does not understand value of employees. Have not laid everyone else off, yet.

    Cons

Attempt to save company through attrition and cost savings. No growth strategy or employee satisfaction. beaurocracy and passive aggressive behavior.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees. The ones that remain are who are keeping the company alive. Understand that.

    Pros

Good work life balance, at times interesting work. Some changes seem to work and are kind of exciting.

    Cons

Management and office politics. Managers are out to protect their own personal interests and gains first and lack business insight in many cases.
Widespread favoritism/nepotism which means the best employees tend to not get rewarded as they should and poor performers get very long and free rides.
Mantra of impending change is starting to get very old.So is the talk about being 'global'. Most of the workforce does not go outside of the Philly suburbs, in body and spirit.

    Advice to Management

Throw some (senior) managers out- start with those at the top that cultivate poor corporate culture and narrow mindedness.

    Pros

    Decent co-workers, good work/life balance

    Cons

No chance to advance, disorganized and no plan on where the company is going. It is in a very tough place right now.

    Advice to Management

Management can't do anything because their management is stuck as well. It has to come from the top layer and they just want to sell the company to cash out $$

    Pros

Great dedicated people working for SG

    Cons

Continuously trying to reinvent themselves. Downsizing the last few years.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget the small companies. They turn into big companies.

    Pros

Good pay & benefits. Excellent place for workaholics and micro-managers. It's not the absolute worst place to work.

    Cons

High employee "burn-out" rate. Horrible work/life balance. Extensive international outsourcing and skeleton domestic crew. No career path growth, no back-filling of past employees.

    Advice to Management

Implement employee advise / feedback. For years upper management has been engaging employees in "feel good" sessions, but discussions are just all talk. If you haven't already noticed your good talent is starting to formulate their exit strategies.

    Pros

People are friendly. Some departments have a good culture.

    Cons

Lack of training for new technologies. Poor leadership. St mgrs try to sooth their own egos. Few raises in the time I worked there. In last 9 months they have laid off about 33% of the employees and replaced some with contractors as they prepare the company for sale.

    Advice to Management

Support your employees, train them, pay them and don't keep laying them off.

    Pros

Flexible schedule, could work at home, constantly changing technology kept the job very interesting. Enjoyed working closely with other employees and clients in building rapport. Company benefits were very good and compensation was decent.

    Cons

Company went private in 2005. Big mistake. Investors had unrealistic financial expectations that were never met. Massive job cuts 4-5 years ago left company nowhere what it used to be. Office culture changed for the worse.

    Advice to Management

New blood is needed, but experienced help was let go.

    Pros

Teams can be a tight knit group. Your opinion of the company will depend heavily upon the dynamics of your team and of your manager. Sungard AS has some really bright folks. Some of my closest friendships are with the people I work with.

    Cons

Bureaucracy and politics. For a company so small, they have a lot of big company politics. It is a shame because a company the size of Sungard AS should be nimble and they are not. I believe this holds the company back.

Limited career growth. Poor raises and no bonus for the technical staff that is keeping the ship afloat. Too much effort on trying to look good to outsiders and not enough effort on actually being better for the insiders. If you convince the insiders that you are a good company that respects its employees and cares about its customers, they will sell it for you to the outsiders.

    Advice to Management

Come up with a plan and stick with it. Stop doing major re-orgs every 12-24 months. It is very disruptive. It makes your employees think you lack vision and you are desperate to come up with a magic formula to fix the problems. You can't keep throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks.

CEO needs to stop telling people things are bad but with everyone putting their noses to the grindstone, the turnaround is right around the corner. We have been hearing that gloom and doom messaging for years. It is always the same message and it hurts morale. People are doing all they can and it still doesn't seem like it is enough.

Stop cutting perks to your people and telling them that you're bringing things in line with the rest of the industry. Be an industry leader!! Make people want to come and work at Sungard AS. Make people want to stay at Sungard AS. You don't attract or retain talent by treating people poorly and telling them that you're doing things to match the rest of the industry. If you are like the rest of the industry, then people will question why they work here. Be a differentiator.

matching 401K, some of the best engineers I have ever worked with, great technology.

    Cons

some of the worst engineers I have every worked with, Pune India office was awful, on-call was brutal, management were a bunch of two faced nit-wits.

    Advice to Management

stop thinking about yourself and think about the people that work for you first.
