I have been working at Sungard Availability Services

    Pros

Interesting use of newer technology and ongoing experimentation and development with cutting edge technologies.

    Cons

Moving way too fast, conflicting priorities, financials seem to be up and down.

I have been working at Sungard Availability Services full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

In my time there I learned quite a bit, as you get exposed to all kinds of new and exciting technology. Most of the people I worked with everyday were great too. Benefits and pay were decent and competitive.

    Cons

The culture that upper management has created doesn't bodge well for long-term success. They seemed to put so much effort into signing on these big customers without figuring out before hand how we were going to support them. Also, the outsourcing to India that happened a few years ago has definitely impacted the company in a negative way, and I hope they bring those jobs back soon.

I have been working at Sungard Availability Services full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Flexible work schedule, ability to work from home when needed. Average benefits -- nothing that wows you, but not bad.

    Cons

Heavy workload. Leadership seems to look out for themselves first. Career advancement and training are lacking. You can learn quite a bit on-the-job, but formal training is nonexistent.

Was a very good company before going private. There was much more teamwork and enthusiasm. Gradually disintegrated.

I worked at Sungard Availability Services full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Don't know current environment well enough, but what I have heard it has not been good. Work-life balance has been mentioned quite a bit. Promotions - none. perks - no. Haven't given out raises in years, that I know of.

    Cons

When is the next RIF? How can one concentrate on personal growth wondering when they will be escorted out of the building. When a company leaks these RIF's out, how do they expect employees to react. Let's be honest here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Best of luck in your endeavor's. You have quite a challenge with employee moral. You must lead them to moral high ground.

    Pros

Decent work/life balance, great coworkers in my department, not a stuffy corporate environment.

    Cons

The company leadership changed while I was there and the new leadership team struggled to find its footing and seemed to be steering the company in a direction that I did not like. Leadership changed again after I left and I've heard it is a much better environment there now.

    Pros

Exposure to a lot of technology, opportunities to get involved in a lot of projects, the occasional recognition, ability to move up

    Cons

Salary is so-so, too many chiefs, company isn't in it to win it, product managers often cater to the 1% rather than the 80%

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in people who want to make a difference. Stop playing catch-up - you have a lot of talented people working there. Listen to them!
