I worked at Sunoco full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The physical work environment is good. The location is very conveniently located in the same building of the main train stop for center city so you can take the train in and then are able to get to work without ever going outside.

    Cons

Managers sometimes play favorites. There isn't that much overall opportunity for advancement because departments are small and aren't that many people that leave they just stay for the long haul and are stuck in their ways of doing things. This means not a lot of opportunity for advancement. There is no formal business related training so little opportunity for individual growth and not much opportunity for outside training (meaning going to or bringing in experts).

I have been working at Sunoco

    Pros

    Friendly employees
    Easy commute
Dress code is relaxed; nothing enforced

    Cons

    Poor overall management & direction
Old software hardware and network equipment
Too many departments outsourcing to contractors (locally and internationally)
    Rarely anyone hired permanently
    Lacks company culture & value
    9/80 work schedule revoked

I worked at Sunoco part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Part-time positions are easy to find because of constant turnover. Several locations within easy commute distance. If they need bodies the will work with your schedule.

    Cons

You're under the gun and a camera constantly. There are few short breaks and staffing levels are always short. Hours can be unpredictable and calling in sick may get you fired. Trust no one as it can get rather cutthroat at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show more appreciation to good employees. Everyone isn't a thief.

    I worked at Sunoco

    Pros

    9/80 work schedule
    5% discount on gasoline purchases
Reasonable vacation time, medical benefits and 401K match.
    Good Center City location

    Cons

Once you got in you could not fight your way out of your current grade level job.
The upper management had no clue as to what we did everyday.
They outsourced hundreds of jobs, terminated employees and then started
hiring contractors with no benefits to help clean up the mess that was made by
the IBM people in India and Argentina.
The CEO who gutted the company has now stepped down and moved back to Texas with
the millions of dollars she took from the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Update your resume. You may not have a job much longer.
When the refineries are shut down, the company will probably
be sold to Luke Oil or Exxon Mobil.

I have been working at Sunoco

    Pros

Sunoco is an adequate employer if you desire to work in Philadelphia for an engineering centric organization ...otherwise, not so much.

    Cons

Low pay, incompetent or indifferent senior leadership, lack of business savvy, lack of a worthwhile vision, shrinking company, undervalued employees and assets,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior leadership and the board of directors should be fired for what they have done to Sunoco and its stock owners. They destroyed a formerly proud and worthwhile organization. It seems clear that the named executive officers' motivations are to exercise the "change in control" clause in order to walk away with multi-million dollar severance packages. Lynn: Enjoy your ~ $38 million and congratulations, you've managed to ruin a 100+ year old American company.

I have been working at Sunoco

    Pros

I think the benefits are good; however, they recently stopped the pension program. We have a 9/80 schedule where you work 9 hour days and have every other Friday off. They will pay for education.

    Cons

New management is causing turmoil within the company as there are too many changes in a short amount of time. The HR department does not promote or assist employees in finding upwardly mobile positions.

    Practice what you preach.

I have been working at Sunoco

    Pros

Salary. Salary. Salary. Salary, and Salary. Really, that's it.

    Cons

Complete lack of vision and leadership from the top down. I've never met anyone in my 20 years that has ever asked what my goals were for my career. Lack of business sense by management is astounding, and has led to a consistent decline in performance against their peer companies. MGT needs to learn that in the modern business world, it is the employees BELOW you that determine your success as a company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look in the mirror: If you ever wondered why a company with a 100+ YEAR track record is closing, look no further. YOU are the reason why.
