I have been working at Susquehanna Bancshares full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great Working Environment. The training facility and training staff is very friendly and professional. Great place to start a career and learn. Company has a good reputation and looks good on resumes.

    Cons

The pay is poor. They need to reevaluate what they are offering their employees compared to the cost of living.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to be developed more. To many managers without a college education are in charge of your branches. The pay is also low as well the cost of living has gone up its very hard to live of some of the hr wages you're offering your employees.

I worked at Susquehanna Bancshares full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Schedule is firm, you know one month in advance
    Only 1 Saturday a month
    Bank Holidays
    15 Min Breaks

    Cons

    Underpaid
No dedicated Loan Center or Mortgage Center
Office Culture is if you suck up you will advance
If you cry a lot they will feel bad and assign you projects off phones
They choose the same group of people for projects
Too many coaches that text on phones all day
Sell, Sell, Sell. Forget the Customer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay Reps at a better rate and Have dedicated reps for Loans and Mortgage.
Reduce coaches, way too many coaches.
Implement a system that avoids favoritism. Some Reps and Supervisors are extremely close and get privileges and special treatment.
Have card Services there on weekends.

I have been working at Susquehanna Bancshares full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The people you meet are some of the best they try to foster a very team oriented culture a sort of "we're all in this together" type of approach. Undergoing major cultural shift with an change in the executive suite not going as planned.

    Cons

Leadership is strictly from the top down and errors are not tolerated. There are certain very well known "golden ones" who can do no wrong, everyone else is expendable. Age discrimination is rampant in the culture, it is privately circulated, among the managers, that they are only interested in hiring twenty somethings old dogs need not apply.

    Pros

Pay, benefits are fair. Cushy office job. There is constantly free food, so you would want a gym membership if you work here.

    Cons

Very daycare-like type of environment. Extremely sensitive employees and supervisors. Emotion-driven management. Not very diverse workplace. Top-heavy call center environment with too many supervisors. There is a lot of secrecy amongst management with no need for it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut the nice-guy image and put leaders in leadership positions. Also, combine the CSC Coach position with the CSC Supervisor role instead of paying people to tweet on their phones all day.

I have been working at Susquehanna Bancshares full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay. Advancement opportunity - you are able to move up in your position from I to III.

    Cons

The HR department is horrible. Don't go to them with questions. They let the branch manager do whatever they want to do. You will work at least every other weekend, and on those days your work week is 6 days, because the branches don't give you a day off during the week. For raises you will only get between 3 and 5 percent, but don't count on more than 3.5. I got perfect with nothing more needed, and only got 3.5 percent. They will try to push you into community service, because of the community reinvestment act.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

HR needs to crack down on the managers who are never at the branch and "work from home."

Former Employee - Customer Service/Financial Specialist Representative in Lititz, PA

    I worked at Susquehanna Bancshares

    Pros

Great benefits package, somewhat flexible scheduling, feedback available, management is willing to work with you, opportunities to advance quickly, employee appreciation lunches

    Cons

high stress job. you are doing the work of 10 customer service reps and certainly not compensated for it. for example, you are a customer service rep so you must answer phone calls about trivial things, such as bank balances, but you also have to know how to calculate escrow and the minutae of interest rates, etc. And when people call you, they're mean because they're upset about something to do with their money. Also, the dresscode is business professional even though you are in a basement and no one sees you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Separate the "customer service rep" into different jobs. A rep for mortgages, a rep for loans, a rep for accounts, etc.
