I have been working at Symantec full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The company defaults to trying to do the right thing for employees, customers and shareholders. High levels of integrity throughout the org.

    Cons

Isn't an innovator. Current solution set will always lag given the development process. Acquisition integration spotty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on the future, jettison the rest.

    Pros

Overall, a decent company to work in Silicon Valley, not super hot/exciting. Good benefit packages.

    Cons

Nothing hot/exciting. Average compensation overall. Stock price has been flat.

I worked at Symantec full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

There was a great team atmosphere, benefits, a real family atmosphere. I worked well with management and most co-workers. A lot of team events and bonding.

    Cons

High sales pressure in a time of change, preventing lateral movement and ultimately leading to me leaving the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out your direction and be more candid with your employees. There was so much discussion around the water cooler of what was "going on" with the company.

I worked at Symantec as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

The first thing that comes to mind are the people. Everyone here is incredibly nice and works together to accomplish milestones. The office is also situated in a really nice area close to a shopping center and there is plenty of parking. Being an intern, the compensation was fair and we were given paid holidays off. Symantec also holds intern events over the summer, which were really great (hackathon, luau, etc).

    Cons

Overall I really enjoyed my time here so I have nothing bad to say but the one thing that I can mention is the constant change in upper management. The CEO changed twice in one year. During the first change there was a huge team reconstruction (layoffs, etc) and many interns were moved to different teams.

I have been working at Symantec full-time

    Pros

    - Offers ample learning opportunities
    - Solid products
    - Competitive pay and benefits
    - Relaxed, friendly work environment
    - Dedicated and empathetic Tech Support Reps

    Cons

    - Company has switched CEO twice in a short period of time, and company is lacking consistent direction.
    - Marketing and sales seem to have a less-than-adequate understanding of the products they're pushing and has no idea how to pitch their products. Lacking in at-a-glance product overviews that would normally entice customers.
    - Getting to the appropriate sales reps for buying and renewing subscriptions can be a nightmare for customers. We get angry, frustrated customers wandering into Tech Support all the time.
    - An unfortunate disconnect between departments.
    - Bloated list of products that need to be consolidated.
    - Some product development teams are don't attempt to cater to customer needs.
    - Too much unnecessary spending by upper management that takes away from.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I've thoroughly enjoyed working with this company and hope to continue to do so. Unfortunately, unsustainable marketing and sales practices, wasteful corporate expenditures, and a lack of consistent direction has slowly lead to a less stable workplace and is hurting employee morale.

    1) Hire sales and marketing personnel who know the products they're selling.
    2) Provide simpler purchasing experience for customers. I don't even want to know how many customers gave up on buying our products out of frustration of not being able to reach the right department & getting the right information.
    3) Provide a simpler at-a-glance product overviews that reach our end-users. Enterprise customers will follow where end user interest / awareness takes them.
    4) Cut down on unnecessary expenditures and limit upper management income so that the company won't experience internal hemorrhaging of its finances. Money needs to be spent constructively in a self-sustaining manner.

I have been working at Symantec full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good work-life balance, benefits, good people and work environment. Company is aggressively making the changes needed to become more competitive.

    Cons

Not fast enough to market, innovation can be a challenge at a large company like Symantec. Teams often working in silos, reflecting a larger issue with cooperation among senior leaders.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

From the top down, need to start working together as a team with shared vision. three CEO's in five years does not look good to employees...make a smart choice and hire the right leader.

    Some interesting tasks or jobs
    Mentor helped a lot

    Cons

They are changing so working experience depends on department.
Still using some old tech in part of system
Need more innovative to get better
Doesn't have very good intern management system. Sometimes interns have nothing to do and bad schedule.
