I worked at Symantec full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people are generally young, smart and eager to win. The products are good, some are great. The benefits are good. I enjoyed my time working at Symantec and wouldn't have chosen to leave. I think long term the company is now headed in the right direction. They simply need to focus, stick to the current strategy and do a little work on some of their products.

    Cons

The board of directors is too involved in the business driving short sited change. The company struggles to act as a single entity and makes it difficult to work across customer segments even when the opportunity/need arises. The on-boarding process is lacking to non-existent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get back to saying what you'll do and doing what you say. Stop making hiring/firing decisions for mid-level managers.

I worked at Symantec full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Symantec Sales offered a great place to work. Compensation was good, and the inside support for success was excellent. I'd work there again.

    Cons

The biggest challenge is the same with any large corporate company now, they want you to do more with less. It wasn't unreasonable but it was challenging.

I worked at Symantec full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The company is quite progressive in that they support telecommuting, have good benefits, and there were lots of bonuses and perks, as least in my opinion (never having enjoyed life at other Silicon Valley firms).

    Cons

Very siloed, seems to be struggling to make the shift to new economy, has to avoid getting tagged as bloatware.

I have been working at Symantec

    Pros

Despite much of the change at Symantec, it continues to be a place where collaboration thrives, technical expertise is abundant and new and exciting offerings are being developed with innovative technology. Now more than ever, our personal, corporate and nation's security is at risk and requires new and effective ways to protect our valuable assets. It's feels great to be part of a company that takes on this mission with such great conviction and pride.

    Cons

Change is a distraction, regardless of the outcome. Though the tech world is ripe for constant change, effectively managing the impact of this change on the organization to ensure the employees can stay focused on the most critical aspects of the job will be key to success

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to be forwarding looking in our vision and strategy, take bigger risks both in starting and stopping efforts. Build a sustainable culture for innovation, risk taking and diversity in the workplace

    Pros

Symantec has some of the greatest engineers in the industry. I am privileged to work for a group which is technically strong & sound

    Cons

Talent is not the same across organisations. For example a principle QA engineer may not be on par with a software engineer in another group. Principal test engineer in some groups do only black box testing. title is not consistent across organization
