I have been working at Symantec

    Pros

Good schedules, fair compensation, good benefits, and tuition reimbursement for courses relating to your job.

    Cons

Too much change in the last few years, they have had two CEO's in just a few years, and shifting priorities from that. They also seem to layoff people for odd reasons, such as being geographically inconvenient.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize your talent, if you already have good people working for you, why do you let so many of them go?

I have been working at Symantec

    Pros

Good work life balance. Good product portfolio. Good architects who know products very well. Ethical company. Good benefits and charity matching program.

    Cons

Too many leadership changes. Have lost all of business leaders in last two years. Company is drifting without any vision or direction.

I have been working at Symantec as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

There are a lot of career opportunities here. Working in Talent Acquisition there are a lot of open requisitions, especially in the Cloud Platform Engineering group. Lots of training opportunities as well.

    Cons

Too many upper management and senior level changes. Interim CEO.....changes at the senior level.....too much instability. No clear message on direction of the company from the top. Until the new CEO is in place, it feels like you're on a deserted island.

I have been working at Symantec full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

constant acquisition of tremendous products, great employee benefits, true love of employees, you are a valued employee.

    Cons

Poor mid management promoted through length of time with company and not talent, poor assimilation of new acquisitions (internally old PM fights against new PM as if they are separate companies still). Very few question/why asking people, a culture of ill just accept it and move on, i don't need to know why. Lack of ability to maintain senior leadership from acquisitions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't fight/defend the battles that got you here, fight/defend the battles and develop the products that will get you there. A "if it aint broke don't fix it" attitude works for staples not technology. An 80 percent portfolio based on a bet against cloud computing is a five year old strategy.

If this is to management it hurts to write this cause you do make me feel like a valued employee and treat me well, but in return it makes me want to see our company rise and hit our potential. There is a strong SYMC blood/pride flowing through all employees.
