Great Learning Experience

ProsThe people are great and overtime pay was good. Nice location, lots of happy hour choices nearby.

ConsManagement is very cliquey, promoting those within their circle before others. Difficult to move up beyond your immediate department. Cost for parking was astronomical. Lots of overtime.

Great people with trust issues

I worked at Symetra full-time

ProsWorking with people who are smart, resourceful and just plain nice. Good work / life balance.

ConsManagement goals and actions did not always align, and little communication of why the change in direction. Worker bees didn't trust their management in multiple areas of the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunicate and be as honest as you can. Stick to the rules of engagement you set out that you want everyone to follow.

ProsWork life balance. Flexible hours. Somewhat interesting work. Very "polite" company to work for and good people to work with.

ConsMorale is low in many departments. Higher ups don't seem to have it all together and send very mixed messages. Not a lot of trust.

ProsReasonable work hours. Great for maintaining a family life.
Good place to learn and being able to contribute.

ConsBig old company with long history from Safeco time.
It is political.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement needs to be more transparent. They are trying to achieve that. But it's not happening yet.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet in touch with what's actually going on in key areas. Stop settling for sound bytes from middle managers, and dive a lttle deeper. Stop dabbling in distribution strategies and set a direction. Company values don't begin and end on a screen-saver. Stop talking about values and start showing us values we can rally around.

Lots of change

ProsManagement is trying hard to be open and honest.

A lot of opportunity presents itself if you show motivation.

If they can keep enough good staff and hire the right new staff, will take off.

ConsEvidence of old boy network everywhere.

Lots of people leaving.

Lots of knowledge walking out the door.

Advice to Senior ManagementStick to the plan and be open. Employees want and need to be part of the solution.
