I worked at Syngenta full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The benefits are unheard of in this day and age.Training and room for advancement (if you want to relocate) are available and encouraged. The pay is OK, better than most companies.

    Cons

The company's switch to outsourcing HR, AP made doing the job a lot more difficult. There is no HR presence at most sites. Communication throughout the company could be better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pass on more information with fewer acronyms - the people might understand what's going on a little better.

Current Employee - Assistant Scientist I
Current Employee - Assistant Scientist I

I have been working at Syngenta full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Everyone in the science field I've worked with have been easy to work with and get along well. Benefits such as health insurance, 401k and stock purchase matching (up to a certain percent), seem pretty good.

    Cons

Salaries are not competitive, especially at lower levels, and raises are pretty much non-existent. There's also no work-life balance, to speak of. You're not really expected to have a life outside of work and the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to keep your scientists around longer, pay better. Turnover and training really hamper efficiency and growth of sectors.

    Pros

Professional, respectful work environment with interesting challenges and colleagues who care

    Cons

Significant transformation of company can lead to disconnect between operation execution and strategic intent

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to invest in people and the change journey. Learning culture leads to creativity and ownership to operationalize.

Former Employee - Student Intern in Saint Gabriel, LA

I worked at Syngenta as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Work with professionals that have been in the field for anywhere from 1-40+ years. Lots of wisdom and a strong emphasis on safety.

    Cons

Starting to outsource a lot of work; piling up job responsibilities on old employees in order to save money

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more people. Not everything is about the bottom dollar. Opinions on upper management are shifting, and not in a good way.

Former Employee - Security and Compliance Analyst in Virginia Beach, VA

I worked at Syngenta as a contractor for more than 5 years

    Pros

Syngenta offers monetary bonuses for all types of accomplishments including staying healthy, meeting sales quotas, and just doing a great job.

    Cons

Syngenta uses a large pool of contract labor and seems to have a high turnover rate

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire people permanently instead of training them and then letting them go. There is too much time, money, and effort being wasted when retention of good employees would better suit the bottom line.

I have been working at Syngenta as an intern for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great salaries and benefits and good compensations.
Work environment and worklife balance are good. Mostly nice colleagues, who are open and helpful. Also some great talents around that could bring the company forward.

    Cons

Very limited funding for external training to help stay on top of the job.
Too much outsourcing/offshoring to "save" money - this results in loss of valuable knowhow and expertise, hence constantly reinventing the wheel.

Former Employee - Project Manager in Pune (India)

I worked at Syngenta as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

Good leadership. Performance based progression. Offer opportunities to explore new areas. Lay lot of confidence even in resources who have less skills. Good focus given to employee friendly policies.

    Cons

Bureaucratic environment. Too late decision making. Very little scope of employees to showcase their intelligence. Teams mostly working in silos (almost at an individual level).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote engagement within employees. Culture needs a real focus as it has been deteriorating over past few years.

I worked at Syngenta full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

God worklife balance and benefits although pay is not great, great corporate culture and values. Make you feels like you're really making a difference with your work.

    Cons

Not the best professionals around, Syngenta is a slow and conservative company. If you are looking for fast track learning to build your profile you should probably look elsewhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider career opprotunities for non agronomists within the business.

    Great People, Rewarding Experience

Former Employee - Student Chemical Engineer  in  Huddersfield, England (UK)
Former Employee - Student Chemical Engineer in Huddersfield, England (UK)

I worked at Syngenta as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

Had a great time here, it is relaxed and friendly. There were a lot of out of work events that really helped me get on with and get to know everyone on the site. They encouraged and supported my learning well. The company does a good job connecting you with employees all over the world and making you feel involved in the companies affairs.

    Cons

Culture is quite cautious but this is very common in the chemical industry. Excessive focus on buzz words and things like Shingo and LEAN. These became a joke to people in the manufacturing plants due to this. IT services can be variable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overall really good, you made me feel very involved and important, which was rewarding. You should get better service from HP, but i don't know if that's fixable. There needs to be less focus on Shingo and LEAN and more practical understanding of how this can be applied specifically to a chemical plant.

    Excellent Colleagues
Management and staff come across as generally passion and believe in the importance and impact of their work of "feeding the world"
    Open and Collaborative culture

    Cons

Difficult for progression for mid-level management. Lack of transparency.
More dependent on your network and connections.
Need to focus on helping the countries to do their jobs rather than meeting the needs of global stakeholders.
