Pros – Stable working environment. Bonus is guaranteed. Company is successful in its field. better than average salary.

Cons – Not much room to grow. Upper management is stagnant. You have to work with twenty year old code. After some time, you do not learn new stuff.

Pros – Good initial salary, bonus, benefits, vacation
Evolving technology
Well respected company
Supportive colleagues to commiserate with to help each other to get through the day.

Cons – Salary freezes, bonuses paid according to cronyism; 24/7 workload expected
Middle managers who are out for themselves only!
One on ones are a joke, as managers don't want to hear your questions or feedback, they just want to load on more assignments.
Employees never hear praise or appreciation - only hear about when something is wrong.
There are a lot of two faced people there - especially in middle management.

Advice to Senior Management – Treat your employees with respect and appreciate all that they do to make you successful!

Pros – Many good people.
Good pay.
Good HR.

Cons – Some very bad yet outspoken people.
Lots of politics and empire building.
Lack of innovation. Strong desire to uphold the status quo.

Advice to Senior Management – Promote development and new ideas. Address continual poor performers.

Pros – The best reason to work for Synopsys is the quality if talent you work with everyday. There are bright people all around and its great to work with them everyday.

Cons – Career growth is limited since the company is not growing. Especially if you are part of the some of the more established business units.

Advice to Senior Management – Management should provide appropriate career growth for people. The company is doing well with customers, some of the benefits should show to the employees.

Pros – work-lift balance in most of teams

Cons – the area is too specific.

Pros – Stable company with lot of cash reserves.
Num 1 in the industry.

Cons – Num 1 company does not pay num 1.
Management brings in their buddies as Peers instead of promoting employees.
Management takes credit for all success and does not share to the teams and employees.
Bureaucracy across the board with error resolution being high.
Stock offering is bad. It does not move up. Funny thing, they compare with apple when the market falls but with nothing when market moves up.

Advice to Senior Management – Employees should not be treated as commodities.
Credit and Recognition should be given.
Change the Crying baby gets more chocolates, way of treating.

Pros – - Best in EDA
- Excellent senior management. They know where they are going.

Cons – - Extremely slow growth. Average promotion after 4 years regardless of quality and dedication to work.
- Due to this mid-level-to-first level management devotes time to promote themselves alone.

Advice to Senior Management – Most employees look up to CEO Aart De Geus, a man of great vision and integrity, an exceptional leader. Excellent top level management specially top 5-6 people. Mid-to-first level managers must care, spend time with and listen to leaf level people.

OK work hours for a high tech firm
Market leader
Some nice people

Cons – Career paths do not appear to exist at Synopsys, there's little career progression, and the opportunities for professional growth seem highly limited.

Advice to Senior Management – If the economy picks up, Synopsys managers will need to look for ways to retain good people. Right now, there aren't enough carrots--rewards such as raises, educational opportunities, career paths--which can create a very discouraging work environment. It shouldn't be necessary for people to get job offers elsewhere to negotiate being more valued by their company.

Pros – The technical work is enjoyable, as are interactions with other technical employees.

Cons – Direct management does not manage; they dictate and shout and finger point. There is no team, but rather a manager has several people, each working separately.

Advice to Senior Management – Enforce the stated expectations made of management, rather than allowing satellite locations to be independent and ad-hoc.

Current Employee – been working at Synopsys

Pros – It is #1 in EDA industry now and seems expanding its market-share at the expense of Cadence and Magma. EDA is pretty small, so either work for the big guy or go to some small start-ups. Right now big guy is Synopsys.

Cons – Politics always for big company. Unless you are in the circle of a small core group or someone higher level supports you, it is hard to get recognition. Job can be pretty boring as well.

Advice to Senior Management – Do not always tell good news. Give realistic view for the market and take care of all, not just a small bunch of employee.
