    Pros

if you are lucky to get a good manager, then good else god save you

    Cons

no clear policy for promotion or pay hike
career doesn't go anywhere after a while..
only way to grow is towards management
always short on staffing, too much pressure on few good performers
No good vision from the leadership
usually no correlation between performance and promotion
not much benefit in terms of health care

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

should take care of employees a little

I have been working at Syntel full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Good pay. Opportunity to travel.

    Cons

Antiquated gender- and hierarchy-based culture. Poor interview process - designed to get seats filled quickly, but not with the right person just the first OK person. Non-existent communication. Double standards abound. 24 hour working is common (e.g., meeting request for 11pm). No training or personal development - HR will say they're looking in to it, but will never follow up. Lip service performance management process - prewritten 'goals'. Employees are encouraged to focus on looking good rather than on doing a good job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Support and engage your employees. I've been with Syntel several months and have yet to even meet my manager... I've asked for information on client-specific training and have received no reply. Etc...

    Encourage employee accountability.

Communicate openly - treat employees as professionals.

I have been working at Syntel full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Enjoyed some of the co-workers that I have worked with.

    Cons

Additional layer of bureaucracy, ridiculous amount of email to sift thru and 'busy work' that only serves to detract from the 'real' job you've been hired to do at client company. Terrible benefits. Revolving door of managers. Expectation to write several technical 'white papers' and publish in Syntel technical forum apart from regular work. Isn't that a conflict of interest? Publishing details of client systems, in a Syntel technical public forum?
If I had known what I know now, I would asked some pointed questions (e.g.: Do you have any existing agreements with the client customer that are not included and disclosed in the terms of my contract?)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Level with your employees, with respect to any 'hidden' agreements that you have with client customer that would prevent them from EVER being hired as a fulltime employee of that company. Apart from lengthy 2 year non-compete, you should disclose that information (the existence of a contract between Syntel and client company, with additional terms). Not only do I feel this is unethical, I think it is likely illegal. You cannot impose a rule that specifies that an employee cannot be hired 'for years' by the client, or basically 'ever' (as was explained to me and my co-workers, when we inquired about the fulltime positions that opened up at Daimler). Encourage anyone who applies to Syntel to ask pointed question. 'Do you have any agreements with the client that would prevent me from working for them directly, apart from what is specified in my contract, at some point in time? May I have this information in writing, please?

I have been working at Syntel full-time

    Pros

Syntel gives opputunity after someone is at bench for a long time or several times.

    Cons

Racism, have to work like donkey ,don't expect good from managment moneywise.
It's a myth that this company sends employees on-site provided your proximity to Manager,HR only supports Managment not employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Equal oppurtunity to given to everyone and Account Managers, Mangers to STOP making false promises to your employees.
Due to some ACCOUNT MANAGER I will leave this company, policies are good but these people don't want to implement it as their margin will be low.
They want for themselves not for others, which in turn has already affecting syntel profitwise .

I have been working at Syntel full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Nothing, None, Zero, Nil, Null

    Cons

    1. Horrible offshore team, 4 fresher’s & 1 experienced guy.
    2. They don’t keep up the promise on GC processing, Syntel never ever going to do GC processing for their employees
    3. Director’s & Account managers are dumb, they don’t have any clue on client’s business.
    4. If you work hard and deliver the project then management doesn’t have time to appreciate your work, but when if there are any little delay’s on project then they will escalate it to higher level & keep lot of pressure on employees
    5. No professionalism while dealing with clients, still got struck in Indian vegetable bargaining business.
    6. Less pay with minimal benefits, a janitor can earn more than a project lead. Less than 2% hike, even if you work your ass off nights & weekends around the year

I have been working at Syntel full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Nothing special. Just another IT services company.

    Cons

Lots of politics to get a hike, role change. Favoritism to get promotions at every level. Keep on changing their goal of becoming Billion dollar company extending the date. The most pathetic Internal systems ever I have used as an IT profession having 5+ application to do the work with different login ids. Do work for 24x7 no rewards. If you coming from a big MNC my advise just avoid this company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some professionalism in the company.

I have been working at Syntel full-time for more than a year

    Pros

People are good to work with, but the company consistently has problems with delivery. This is a good place to work if you enjoy being micromanaged.

    Cons

where do you want me to start? The company has so many problems they cannot be articulated in a short paragraph. Central problem is the company has little bench strength, broken internal systems and very slow expense reimbursement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

too broken to fix and a chairman of the board/founder that doesn't care. If you enjoy working for a miser than this is the place for you.
