I have been working at Syntel full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

A good company to gain initial experience in variety of areas.
Very less end to end development project but lot of staff augmentation projects which give immense opportunity for a business analyst profile.
    Lot of onsite opportunities

    Cons

After few years of experience you outgrow and become over mature to organization policies and culture. Seems that the organization and people do not evolve with time.
Growth is very difficult for a business analyst unless career is oriented towards moving to delivery/project management.
Taking advantage of people who travel on H1B visa by giving them less salary, less benefits as compared to their US peers. That is why they have a high attrition rate. They had a bond of Rs. 250000 for any employee who travels to the US but now it has been increased to Rs. 500000. People holding H1B and joining Syntel beware.
Anyone can become anything in Syntel. Even a person who does not have enough business knowledge, business sense and cannot speak proper english can get promoted and get in to management level role
Policies are not employee friendly and still very less people raise their voice
    Lack of professional culture
Appraisal system is a joke as ratings get normalized if you are not in the good books of the manager. Even if there is a good rating there is no salary increase for onsite people
Benefits are a joke for people travelling onsite from India. Even though employees pay for the premium coverage is not good.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increasing bond amount without improving policies will only cause weak people to travel. If a strong candidate travels to the US, he will move out despite of the bond amount
Improve the appraisal system by implementing 360 degree appraisal for anyone who is involved in a managerial role
If you focus too much on the operating margins then forget about the topline growth

    Pros

Onsite opportunity and good place for starters

    Cons

Training's stink they do not spend, no job/knowledge enrichment
If you know to soap your manager you can get promotions every year even if you are an average performer
Finance and HR are not employee friendly

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rotate your manager/EM's to other accounts let them perform, they just hold on for years in same account and create vacuum with no value addition

I have been working at Syntel full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The company is high on cash reserves but there isint much work, business is based on few long standing clients, job is secure, you're given time to improve, cos they arent in any hurry, cos there isint much work anyway.

    Cons

Too far from the city, no work life balance. Horrible HR & travel policies, employees come at the bottom of the cycle. Basic facilities as washroom & cafeterias are badly managed. Cost savings in everything. Printers, lights, ACs are kept switched off to save costs!. Teams work in silos which is big problem while working on projects, there isint a defined methodology, nobody here is on a common platform. They've been trying to reach the 2 billion mark for over years now. Top management is least bothered with what goes on with employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more people centric. Please don't have this attitude. this is one of the reasons why Syntel has such high attrition, people don't stick around for more than a year.

I have been working at Syntel full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good work environment, management will not put extra pressure on employees.

    Cons

The Salary hike will be very very minimal even if we get very good rating in the appraisal. Salary will be always paid less.
Benefits, especially medica is very horrible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please try to revise the salary of the employee at least once in a year if the person is doing good; other than the salary you give every other prices are increasing. Please try to provide a better insurance to your employees.
