I have been working at Syracuse University part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Good salary.
You wont be hired unless you are a grad student. So the pro would be getting in touch with the undergrad life which syracuse is so popular for.

    Cons

Problem is you are not assured so-and-so no of hours per week. During midterms and finals, you ll get a lotta students but otherwise cant say.

I have been working at Syracuse University part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

If you work in a school or college you can spend as freely as you want - parties, Stickley furniture, committee meetings at swank resorts.

    Cons

    More work, less people
Staff are treated/looked at as excess to get rid of
Cost cutting is ALWAYS on the administrative side - academic and executive staff can be added and added but never have to reduce cost. There's excess spending in every school/college and in Criuse Hinds Hall wher so many Vice Presidents of x, of y, of z and so on.
New chancelor added what I would guess is a HIGHLY PAID man to cut costs on the administrative side (but nit schools/colleges or the high ranking plethora of VPS, AVPS, ASST VPS, ect ) but has also KEPT ON the extremely expensive consulting group of Bane. Isn't that a cost to cut???

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    See above.
Chancelr needs to look at waste & extrvagence in schools/colleges. He also needs to stop being so autocratic. SU was excited when the last chancelor left but Syverud is almost worse. Su is going down fast sadly - it's all the community talks about.

I have been working at Syracuse University part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Working with my staff is something I look forward to every day. Not only is the staff that I work with great, but the kids are great as well. I have made some friends I will have for the rest of my life and if it wasn't for Syracuse University, things wouldn't have been the same.

    Cons

A bit time consuming, it sometimes affects my studies but I manage to do well.

I have been working at Syracuse University full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Relatively good pay for research / teaching assistants (RAs, TAs) in the engineering college, with a good mix of high-profile projects to choose from. Good health care packages available to student employees (SU Blue).

    Cons

Limited resources available to student researchers (i.e. restricted machine shop, few usable high-power computers, etc.). Limited spread of courses in mechanical / aerospace engineering department for graduate students.

I have been working at Syracuse University part-time for more than a year

    Pros

I have enjoyed teaching undergraduates at Syracuse University. Being a Teaching Assistant provides a lot of personal growth experience and is easily balanced between other school work and my research.

    Cons

The undergraduates at Syracuse University do not care very much about their grades or academics. The department I was a teaching assistant for seemed to be divided among faculty between the priorities of research/publication and effective education.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide the tools needed for teaching assistants to effectively do their jobs while giving us flexibility to teach lesson plans as we see effective. There needs to be more innovation in teaching than there currently is.
