I have been working at TELUS
Pros – Average Pay, Benefits, Stock purchase plan. Large growing corporation with an upward stock price. Company was flush with cash for any business purpose.
Cons – "Passion for change" value should be "Passion for Positive change". The constant change in this company is not warranted. The decisions of numerous departments above the customer service level compounded daily at customer serving level. No respect for CSR position. Many departments sent offshore. Advancement is a popularity contest.
Advice to Senior Management – At least look like you are working hard. Nothing is worse than busting your butt selling, resolving issues, billing, and accounting in a time sensitive environment only to see your boss or other management chit chatting or spending half an hour in the Tim's coffee lineup. I know people in management who spent years playing World Of Warcraft on the job.

I have been working at TELUS
Pros – benifits, good vacation, flexible when time off required, flexible shifts, interesting work, good people to work with, over time is double time.
Cons – lock outs, poor morale, evil managment, poor customer relations, employees not respected, unstable job security (company moving toward contracting out)
Advice to Senior Management – It’s not all about profit people are important parts of the Business i.e. customers/employees. Lower level management show know the job they are managing.

I have been working at TELUS
Pros – There is ample direction given by management. A need for balanced work/personal life is appreciated, but not always accepted. Good overall compensation packages.
Cons – There is ample direction given by management; sometimes good, often awful. Skills and projects are sometimes very poorly matched, to the point of embarrassment. Promotions are not as open as they seem.
Advice to Senior Management – The only way Telus, or any of the big telcos, are going to improve ( and there's plenty of room for improvement all the way around ), is to listen. Listen to their customers, and listen to the professionals they've hired.

I have been working at TELUS
Pros – Great benefits / stock share / pension plans
Cons – The only way to get a raise is to change departments.
There's always a reason to give you the minimum bonus even if you meet and exceed all your performance objectives.
They'll lay you off at the drop of a hat to out source work to India.
Advice to Senior Management – Drop the "Team Telus Cares" and "We want to be a responsible corporate citizen" if you're going to lay off hundreds of employees to outsource their work to India.

I worked at TELUS
Pros – TELUS is located in many geographically diverse locations so there is opportunity to move. Also, because of the broad scope of operations, there were opportunities to move from sales to marketing to operations to regulatory. Unique opportunities such as regulatory affairs cannot be found at other employers.
Cons – Despite the replacement of most of the senior management team, it is still an old boys club. The company does not show respect for employees and decisions are often made within a vacuum.
Advice to Senior Management – The level of respect demonstrated when George Petty was CEO was legendary as was his vision. He treated employees with dignity and respect and walked away from overpriced acquisitions. Revisit his thinking.

I worked at TELUS
Pros – Not applicable as I have left the employ of TELUS - wasn't fired or packaged out, just resigned after a 25+ year career there.
Cons – Very poor morale, constant worry of whether or not you'll have a job a month down the road
Advice to Senior Management – Bring the work back in house, stop the bleeding of jobs to overseas countries and also in-Canada contractors

I have been working at TELUS
Pros – Excellent exposure to new technologies and solutions. Always plenty to learn. Many different career paths. Coworkers are great.
Cons – Only way to get a raise is change jobs or threaten to quit. Major accomplishments and achievements will only net you the annual 1-2% increase. In good job markets, this quickly leaves you below fair market value. They constantly brag that they are attracting and retaining top talent, but I've seen little to that affect. In my area, half my team is ready to quit and vacancies usually take over a year to fill. These are management professional positions, not union.
Advice to Senior Management – Focus more on employees, morale is terrible. Everything that was pro-employee or a perk is quickly disappearing to add a few more cents to the dividend.

I have been working at TELUS
Pros – There are a lot of good people working at telus...this is easily the best part of telus
Cons – cheap cheap cheap. telus takes little chunks out of your "comprehensive benefits plan" every year - soon there will be little less...for example, did you know that part of your yearly performance bonus is now directly tied to whether you volunteer on your own time? ...to me that seems to be hardly "volunteer work" any more. Hmm..wondor if there are legal implications there?
Advice to Senior Management – TELUS, your people are your most valuable assets...period. The economy is booming yet you seem to show little interest in retaining the people. You need to bring salaries up to the industry standards, stop reducing benefits every year, and get rid of the considerable dead weight that bogs down the productivity of this company.
