I worked at TELUS full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Get some experience so you can quickly move on.

    Cons

Seemed like they would hire 'moles' into areas and no one knew what their titles were, then all of a sudden these people would be titled as management. Company only worried about getting more business so they have very savvy salesmen (who have credentials like being engineers but are really good friends of very high executive). They claim to have all the answers that will help solve the tricky technology around HR. Employees are not listened to and sometimes completely forgotten when it comes to implementing changes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit paying "engineers" to try do damage control when it comes to your 'Brand'. Find out ideas from ALL departments and especially those in the trenches. Problem for you now is that trust is gone because of 'Mole' hiring.

I worked at TELUS full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Enough time to learn the job by own efforts. Good benefits.

    Cons

Not really a IT company. After learning the job gets stuck in it, mangement wants you stay in same job forever. They don't want you to master all technical areas. Lots of Favouritism, It's not what you know it's Who you know kind of company. Is you want to do well just kiss manager's ass all the time.

I worked at TELUS full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great pay and decent shifts to work.

    Cons

TELUS is a leader in outsourcing work to other countries which leads to job insecurity in Canada. (i.e. Call Centre closures, consolidation of departments etc)
Regular lay-offs about every 2-3 years

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on the people and the customers
Focus on keeping jobs in Canada - it is not all about the bottom line all the time.

I worked at TELUS full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Dealing with Customer - Brand Recognition

    Cons

    Internal Politics and mid-level management.
Over Managed and outsourced key areas makes it hard to do anything right

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change Pulse check so people aren't scared to submit honest feedback. Something that doesn't need TiD or link login to submit. Get the real story about how people feel about Business in Alberta and the current leadership practice. The AB SMB environment is poisonous and going against all TELUS values and human ethics. SMB AB needs a reboot.

I have been working at TELUS

    Pros

Average Pay, Benefits, Stock purchase plan. Large growing corporation with an upward stock price. Company was flush with cash for any business purpose.

    Cons

"Passion for change" value should be "Passion for Positive change". The constant change in this company is not warranted. The decisions of numerous departments above the customer service level compounded daily at customer serving level. No respect for CSR position. Many departments sent offshore. Advancement is a popularity contest.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

At least look like you are working hard. Nothing is worse than busting your butt selling, resolving issues, billing, and accounting in a time sensitive environment only to see your boss or other management chit chatting or spending half an hour in the Tim's coffee lineup. I know people in management who spent years playing World Of Warcraft on the job.

I have been working at TELUS

    Pros

benifits, good vacation, flexible when time off required, flexible shifts, interesting work, good people to work with, over time is double time.

    Cons

lock outs, poor morale, evil managment, poor customer relations, employees not respected, unstable job security (company moving toward contracting out)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It’s not all about profit people are important parts of the Business i.e. customers/employees. Lower level management show know the job they are managing.

I have been working at TELUS

    Pros

There is ample direction given by management. A need for balanced work/personal life is appreciated, but not always accepted. Good overall compensation packages.

    Cons

There is ample direction given by management; sometimes good, often awful. Skills and projects are sometimes very poorly matched, to the point of embarrassment. Promotions are not as open as they seem.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The only way Telus, or any of the big telcos, are going to improve ( and there's plenty of room for improvement all the way around ), is to listen. Listen to their customers, and listen to the professionals they've hired.

I have been working at TELUS

    Pros

Great benefits / stock share / pension plans

    Cons

The only way to get a raise is to change departments.
There's always a reason to give you the minimum bonus even if you meet and exceed all your performance objectives.
They'll lay you off at the drop of a hat to out source work to India.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Drop the "Team Telus Cares" and "We want to be a responsible corporate citizen" if you're going to lay off hundreds of employees to outsource their work to India.

    I worked at TELUS

    Pros

Not applicable as I have left the employ of TELUS - wasn't fired or packaged out, just resigned after a 25+ year career there.

    Cons

Very poor morale, constant worry of whether or not you'll have a job a month down the road

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring the work back in house, stop the bleeding of jobs to overseas countries and also in-Canada contractors
