Senior Technology Specialist (Current Employee)
Calgary, AB (Canada)

I have been working at TELUS full-time for more than a year

ProsJob Security, you will never get fired.
Flexible work locations, most people I know work from home or have the ability too.
Fairly easy to accomplish your work goals, work is not particularly busy
Health / RRSP Benefits are fantastic

ConsYou might have a terrible manager that is never around/never emails & is hard to get hold of.
The review system makes it almost impossible to get a pay rise.
They dont give new mobiles to employees, mostly everyone has a refurbished blackberry

Advice to Senior ManagementDo a good review of your middle management.

Long term Team member

Manager (Current Employee)
Calgary, AB (Canada)

I have been working at TELUS full-time for more than 10 years

ProsWork / Life Balance is one of the best. TELUS is extremely supportive to it's employees and family members. Very active in the community. Great stock plan for all team members. Lots of opportunity for advancement. Excellent training for both hourly and salary employees.

ConsTELUS uses a Bell Curve to treat salary which is very unfair as cost of living adjustments are not made. Average rated team members can go years without treatment

Advice to Senior ManagementReview salary treatment. They are not listening to the TELUS Team. This will and has lead to losing many talented team members

Typical of a large (Canadian) company. A company with such diversity of business has good and bad sides.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Calgary, AB (Canada)

I worked at TELUS full-time for more than 10 years

ProsReasonable benefits. Reasonable work/life balance although it depends on the nature of the job. This company is very keen on flexible hours and working from home so it is great for a variety of lifestyles. They are good at providing the required tools such as laptops, cell phones. There are many business units within the company and therefore plenty of different types of jobs with varying degrees of skill sets.

ConsThey do not live up to all their promises agreed to during the hiring process. Incentives tend to be forgotten over time. Personal performance reviews tend to be linked to overall wage ceilings as opposed to personal performance. Opportunity for training is restricted by cost and some technical departments only reward those who rate high on the curve following overall business unit performance reviews.

TELUS invests a great deal of time and money into training it's employees

Customer Care Representative (Current Employee)
Calgary, AB (Canada)

I have been working at TELUS

ProsGreat training program, benefits start on day one (increase once probation is complete), extremely positive work environment.

ConsAs a customer care rep, day-to-day experiencedepends on the manager you're assigned to. My manager is forward-thinking, involves team in planning events, contests, "team builders". Other teams are worried about not meeting sales targets; I've seen more than one agen close to tears for not meeting hers.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive all team members a chance to work on extra projects and have a chance to get off the phones once in a while; not just the ones who are constantly brown-nosing.

Network Manager (Current Employee)
Calgary, AB (Canada)

I have been working at TELUS

ProsGreat opportunity for Growth and self development. Very good work life balance opportunities. Management promotes innovative thinking.

ConsBenefits seem to be eroding over the past few years. Although TELUS has had a good bonus structure in the past it seems to paying only to senior leadership team

Advice to Senior ManagementAlthough off shoring call centres are cost effective don't lose sight of the importance of providing superior customer service
