Great Stable work.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at TELUS

ProsAllows Work From Home.
Has nice Laptops for work + another monitor so you get a big workspace.
flexible time.
nice co - workers and nice boss as well in the main office in canada

ConsIt's a big company so there will be politics ne way or another.
Each team (as far as I'm concerned in my work) takes care of its own problems only. Once they see the message passed to their system is correct, pass it along to the next in line to check. It seems to me problems will be solved if both teams work more together than just passing stuff around and forgetting about it.

Too many meetings, you won't have time to get things done in the office at times (depends on your position).

Advice to Senior Managementkeep up the good work! I know a lot of people who love the company and love their work here.

Average

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at TELUS

ProsFlexible hours, mobile office work, large organization, decent benefits

ConsBecause of the mobile office work, it is hard to keep in touch with others. Does not feel like you are working in a team. Must be self-driven or else you will get lost quickly. Need to talk to a lot of people to get anything done. Not Agile at all.

Good for starters

Director (Former Employee)
Calgary, AB (Canada)

I worked at TELUS full-time for more than 10 years

ProsBreadth of products offered
Okay HR benefits, finally adopted teleworking
Marketing company
Good share price if you are in Employee share plan
Mainly EBITDA focused

ConsNot a real IT service company (some leaders are not IT and IP literate)
Leaders do not "walk the talk"
Very bureaucratic process, nepotism, and very political culture
Monopolistic approach to employees, market and customers
"Very Tight" command and control style of leadership
Chose to burden itself with old traditional technology
Mainly EBITDA focused (employees and customers are just numbers)

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

It was ok, if you worked for the right manager

Design Engineer (Former Employee)
Toronto, ON (Canada)

I worked at TELUS full-time for more than 3 years

ProsFlexible work arrangements, lax start and end times in principal but depends on your manager.
There was no micro-management.
Work from home
Get involved in many projects, but you are always playing catch up since formal training is almost non-existent, but Telus does provide lots of online training opportunities for those that have the time.

ConsDaily manager walk around at 5pm to see who and who wasn't at their desks.
You are on your own, top down work assignment and you are left to engage other departments.
I found there was little manager to manager engagement
Vague notions and hard deadlines
Value of benefits diminished with time

Advice to Senior ManagementGet engaged with each other, to allow projects to flow easier and get resources assigned and engaged effectively

It started with a sample , then a taste that eventually soured.

Manager (Former Employee)

I worked at TELUS full-time for more than 10 years

ProsIt was a decent job which required hard work , lots of accountability/ explanations and ?'s ; restructuring eliminated this along with the self esteem of many co-workers...

ConsIf someone is above, they intend to stay there ...in retrospect, blatant dishonesty looking straight into your eyes in the process.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey know it all because people are paid handsomely to..they rarely listen

I worked at TELUS

ProsGood casual culture and they even encourage you to work from home. Good to work at for a short term period (3-5 years max)

ConsManagement tends to pick favorites. They pay less than the competitors and they try to string along employees and avoid giving raises or promotions for as long as they can.
