I have been working at THINK Together

    Pros

The work with children is truly valuable. This is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children.

    Cons

The company is cutting hours and expecting an unrealistic amount and quality of work for the pay. The stress is overwhelming from the management with no real support offered.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you are unable to give more hours to your coordinators than you need to honestly cut the workload. Do not expect the same quality of a 30 hour coordinator as you did from an exempt employee.

    Pros

I think working here you will get alot of experience with many different things. For example, working for THINK Together you get experience not only managing a class room but also how to manage time well.

    Cons

You definitely need to be patient. This job is and can be difficult, especially for a sub. As a sub you have to build relationships in a very short amount of time, and alot of the time children take advantage that you are a sub.

    Pros

Great learning experience while working with kids.
You gain some knowledge about classroom management and doing lessons.
I had a GREAT site coordinator and she really made all the difference for me, my coworkers, and the students.
My coworkers were such great people who really cared about our students.

    Cons

Lack of training. They have you come in for training but it's just them teaching you how to fill out the attendance sheets and not how to work with the students or classroom management. They basically throw you into a school and hope that you land on your feet and start running.
Your experience depends on where you are placed. If you are placed at a good school with a great site coordinator, you will have wonderful students and parents. If not, it will be very hard to come to work because things can be very disorganized and disheartening.
    High turnover rate with staff.
Towards the end of the year, my school had to start condensing classes near the end of the day which meant combining smaller classes and forcing program leaders to leave earlier. This meant that you were working and being paid less and less every week. This was not only burdensome to the program leaders but especially to the kids because it interrupted their time with their leaders and they were forced to be uprooted and moved to a different class.

    Pros

Honestly, if you do not have an interest or passion looking after, supervising, and teaching children and are just trying to make a quick buck on the side, this job is not for you. If you are however, the pay is worth it and the experience is amazing!

    Cons

Occasionally it is difficult to get any time off since you are working in an education setting and work is mostly every day. It can become stressful at times.

    Pros

Helping out students in an afterschool environment without cost. Improving their academic ability. Great philosophy of program.

    Cons

Strict policies may have been put in place for fear of lawsuit (perhaps a previous lawsuit?) Such as: no playing with students, no walking backwards, etc. Maybe this actually happened and the company lost a lot of money because of it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Additional training for new employees.

    Pros

Work hours are good for part time students. M-F about 2-6pm. Can look good on a resume if you intend to be a teacher in the future. Supervisors really give you a lot of say in how you want to want to run the class and lesson plan.

    Cons

Only downsides are those that come with teaching, problem students/parents, etc.

I worked at THINK Together as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

The work itself is fun and great, if you've got a permanent position. There are also a lot of chances and opportunities to grow within the company.

    Cons

Upper management needs improvement, subbing system is awful, pay is extremely low based on other similar companies and the work we actually do, as a sub you have to deal with inconsistencies from site to site.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You've got to put in place a more professional system for your substitutes- the current system just didn't work for me. Three times I was told I would be working at one place for the week, then on Friday morning got a call telling me I needed to go somewhere else because the position had been filled... and I worked for you for a month. This is unacceptable and ridiculous. Also, I've worked for several other SES providers (I know THINK isn't exactly this, but they are comparable) and the pay for teachers is COMPETITIVE. I don't understand why we are treated like EDUCATORS... and then only offered about 16 hours a week, at $11 an hour. The program (i.e. the schedule, interacting with students, dealing with SC) is good experience for a future educator- BUT the job itself feels more like camp counselor.

Also, the training we had to endure- I mean, participate in- was ridiculous. Maybe it would be more fruitful if training didn't consist of two straight days of being treated like 5 year olds by a way too perky middle aged woman. The third day, the day we actually got to go to a site and see how the program works- was more informative and helpful than the other two days combined. The training needs work.
