    Weak management team limits potential

    (Former Employee)
    Palo Alto, CA

ProsGreat place to hang out and do the minimum necessary in just about any group. Almost impossible to get fired, except marketing occasionally chases people out. If you're in Engineering, you can find some good stuff to do that will give you a good product on your resume.

ConsLack of senior management direction, beginning with a CEO who lacks any experience outside the organization. Product Management and Marketing leadership is weak and has little influence on the Engineering organization. Overall senior management is comparatively weak vs. peers in the industry. Marketing budget is limited and spent unwisely. Product Management lacks leadership. HR is treated as a legal compliance group, with zero investment in developing internal resources. Compensation is a favoritism system and nobody knows how it works. Company focused on avoiding mistakes, instead of focused on successes.

Advice to Senior ManagementVivek - sell the company and retire. Acknowledge that you've done well for yourself, and then get out of the way. Or else, decide you need to get rid of the senior management team and hire people who will challenge you.

Worst company I have ever worked for - Do not waste your time working here

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Maidenhead, England (UK)

Pros- Good pay and bonus (especially if you can sustain lots of overtime)

    Cons- Unrealistic work expectations
    - Mostly no, little or merely self-study if training courses are not scheduled soon making it difficult to perform well during the project
    - Projects are under-resourced
    - No growth strategy
    - Products are a hard-sell unless Tibco is the only vendor on the table
    - HR unsupportive to employees
    - Very political environment where, unless careful, you may be blamed for others' mistakes
    - No work-life balance - was expected to do significant overtime including bank holidays (Christmas and New Year) working over 12 - 13 hours a day including weekends for nearly 2 months. Management could not care less about your overtime as long as the delivery is made.

Advice to Senior Management- Provide appropriate training prior to projects if the individual does not have the necessary knowledge and experience together with some mentoring during the project by someone experienced
    - Resource projects with the necessary employees

    Not people focussed

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Maidenhead, England (UK)

ProsAgile, entrepreneurial, flexible. Good software products. If you like working as a stand alone individual then a good environment.

ConsFull of politics across European office, very hierarchical, driven by US decision making. Unfriendly. Unsupportive office environment. Everyone disliked working there. Very little focus on training and development of people. Probably different if you work in the offices in the US though...

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on clarifying EMEA management decision making hierarchy and plan to train and develop people.

    Going nowhere

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ConsComplete lack of upward mobility, no visibility, poor incentive structure, absolutely no raises.

The worst company to work for bar none!!

    Senior Account Executive (Current Employee)
    Toronto, ON (Canada)

ProsProduct Set is great if you are looking for a technical job this could be for you or if you are related to the senior management

ConsSeniors Sales Management has no clue
Employees are treated with disrespect , I have been working for 20+ years no company remotely comes close to how mismanaged this organization is
Mid management is breaking every role possible , law suites are piling up
Bullying is rampant and part of the culture
Sales compensation is never paid. for example if you close a deal and you get X amount of commission they will offer you 50% of what you have earned and a couple of new accounts no recourse .

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease stop toying with peoples careers , get you act together, move focus from buying basketball teams to your own organization and its share holders . If you cant change that please sell the company !!
    Get a decent HR division

At TIBCO, it's not WHAT you know, it's WHO you know

    (Former Employee)

ProsThe products have a good reputation and the CEO, Vivek, has made sure the company's image is very polished, for example, the expensive looking visitors hall, million dollar annual Christmas shindig (where Vivek brings his latest Trophy Date).

ConsThere is rampant incompetence at TIBCO because people don't succeed or fail based on how smart or talented they are, but how connected they are. Especially in Marketing, people who produce some of the lowest quality work product imaginable are not only not laid off, but actually promoted, while those who produce high quality work are dismissed or laid off if they are not connected to the "right" people. For instance, it's very, very helpful to have a family member or close friend in HR or management. I believe this is the reason TIBCO is never as successful as it wants to be and will never be in the same league as Oracle.

There are huge ego issues at TIBCO. When you work there, they are constantly drilling into you (practically spamming your work inbox with emails regarding Vivek's latest media appearances, various other media pieces) how successful they are, how special TIBCO is and how much better they are than their competitors, such as Oracle. You're regularly reminded of Vivek's latest media related diss of Oracle and its CEO When you leave TIBCO, you see that most people have never even heard of the company and that TIBCO is simply a "legend in their own mind."

People are laid off indiscriminately and verbally abused, without regard to their talent or personal circumstances, but because of the rampant politics and egos at the company. Some joke that Vivek lays people off when he wants to buy another car to add to his already large collection of luxury automobiles.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry focusing a little less on how you appear to the world and more on running a less dysfunctional company.

    Good cafeteria with employee discount
    Great technology offerings

    ConsPoor employee development
    Lack of concern for employees

    Treat you like slaves!

    Senior Account Executive (Current Employee)

    Proshas reputation for good products

ConsTIBCO acquires companies but there is no synergy in sales. Upper management provides no support. Allows stealing of deals - thus no commission. Very little communication. If you don't mind being treated like dirt then this is the place for you!

Advice to Senior ManagementUpper management from India. Treats people like lower caste. Management should treat its employees with more respect and stop jerking employees around. Constantly change comp plan making it worse for the AEs.

If you are in marketing and have other job options, take them!

    Marketing (Current Employee)

ProsYou get your own office and the palo alto location is nice and central. The cafe is good and if you like travel, you get some nice opportunities.

ConsWhen I started my job here in the depths of the recession, I thought I was the luckiest person in the world. That feeling blew to bits after a couple of months. I started looking for another job almost immediately. People here are mean spirited, egocentric, constantly kissing undeserving management butt and have made a full time job out of it. If you are in marketing services department, you are basically the managements' bitches and they have no respect for you or your life. Its not much better if you are in the other groups like field marketing or product marketing. The management is too lazy to provide any kind of strategic direction. They are petty little people throwing tantrums like little children. They are contantly laying people off from marketing (2-3 per month out of about 75 marketing people) and it has absolutely no correlation with how good you are. I know people who come running to justify why so & so was laid off - but it really just has to do how much posturing you do. I have been most diappointed to see the few decent people around here either leave or get laid off. Sales knows you have a short shelf life and just ignores you making your job that much harder. I am always shocked we make the numbers - a few good sales guys and deep accounts do the trick everytime.
Anyways...I have an offer another company which I have accepted and am screaming happy about it. Bye TIBCO and I hope our paths never cross again! :=). If you are unemployed with a job offer here, my advice is to keep looking even after you join. If you are employed dont quit just yet. There are better companies where you will get offers.

Advice to Senior ManagementGo to management school - again - and pay more attention in class this time.

Great products, many great people, crap top management, stay away

Somewhere In Building One, Two, Or Three (Current Employee)

ProsNice location, many very smart and wonderful people. Important products that make a difference. Good benefits, nice atmosphere.

ConsTop management has no clue. The FOV (Friends of Vivek) comments ring 100% true. This makes for a bleak atmosphere. Marketing attrition has been horrendous and is due solely to on FOV. No direction, crap career feedback, personal insults and demotivation are core techniques, and truth be told, LIES are routinely told. It's a disaster really.

Advice to Senior ManagementSell the company to someone who knows how to run a business. I chose 1 on a scale of 5 for many answers only because there wasn't a zero.
