I worked at TJ Maxx full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Pay was good,
The inside temperature of the store was moderately ok
Discount of 10% meant my purchase was usually just tax free.

    Cons

    Benefits were not that great
    Training was almost non-existent
Promotions went to brown-nosers or favoritism. Lots of Nepotism and Favoritism.

    Get it together....

I have been working at TJ Maxx

    Pros

Getting first pick of the clothes off the floor. There wasn't really a big discount though.

    Cons

The people I worked with, they didn't want to be there and showed it. It was usually chaos.

I worked at TJ Maxx part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    -You get a paycheck
    -Lots of break room activities
-Time goes by fast because there's no such thing as ever being caught up on work

    Cons

-Majority high school(some not) graduated Mexicans with no career path
-Can get an 8 hour shift in one department by yourself with no help and never be able to catch up or have a second to breathe before you leave
-Are required to take a 45 minute lunch(a little long if you ask me) if you work over a 6 hour shift
-If you are not Hispanic, the Mexican workers tend to be very clique-y and even though you know spanish, the will assume you don't and will talk about you in Spanish to another Mexican person like you don't understand what they're saying
-Required to push TJX Rewards cards with no reward
-Will schedule you even when you're not available
-If you come in sick(especially during winter season) and in my case I could barely walk I was so ill, and still came in, you are still expected to do a normal shift of running back and forth for those never ending go back bins of returns of crap this store sells, make sure your department is full "recovered", and assist customers basically all at the same time.
-invest in some comfortable tennis shoes because there will be times you're running back and forth because there's way too much to do
-Mostly a place for barely educated or not college bound individuals ranging from 20's to about 40's who are never going to far
-One time I arrived at 4 pm, to work a 7 hour shift and found out that no one had worked in my department since 11 am. My department was in ruins. Go back bins overflowing. And the week before Christmas. All I have to say is poor scheduling skills TJ Maxx
-Expect to be treated terribly from coordinators, especially that of the Mexican race, and don't dare give sass back or they'll Fire you because of course TJ Maxx will always watch out for their uneducated Mexicans.
-Not enough pay for the work load
-An item can be totally broken and an employee will ask for a discount and they will only give 10% ever, it's ridiculius
-Not many advancement opportunities, this is not a career

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have two people in every department at all times, it is not fair for an employee every shift to be on their own completely.

I have been working at TJ Maxx full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I am thankful I have a job. Have seen a lot of managers come and go and employees some are missed others not so much .Tjmaxx is closed thanksgiving, After 20 years you get 5 weeks vacation.

    Cons

management is so busy worried about credit card apps, unions coming in,and keeping the pay of employees down,
Yes we know that your bonuses are made on the store stats. And if you do not make your numbers you will be shipped off to an under performing store where yes you will only receive your salary.Company values are $ not employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

store manager something is broken.May god save us all if u become a DM. You are rude, the way you treat the staff is disgraceful.

I worked at TJ Maxx part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You get to meet a lot of new people. From customers to actual Associates.

    Cons

There were a lot of negatives working there. Managers are horrible and some coordinators think that they are managers when they aren't. My store manager didn't want to do any motivation for his associates. They are always on you about credits even though you ask and the customer doesn't want one the managers still get mad and tell you basically that they can get one and you can't so step it up. Its sad because i used to really enjoy coming into work when us associates were being thanked for doing our job and helping the company out but as time went on and a few managers left the job just went down hill. Also ive heard the same from other associates i worked with that transferred to another store.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop pushing TJX credit when every associate is trying their hardest to sell the card. also thank your associates with motivation not saying with food or anything like that but a thank you will be more appreciated than name calling and being criticized for everything that an associated does.

I have been working at TJ Maxx part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    A 10% discount is a "pro."

    Cons

You only get a raise every year. Yes you've read correctly, every year. If you are granted a raise it can be anywhere from $0.05-0.25. That's it and that's all. No room to "work your way up."

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pick better management.
