I worked at TJ Maxx part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

It wasn't a stressful job. Coworkers were nice and friendly and we sometimes hung out outside of work. Low pay, but when you're in high school it's something you can add to your piggy bank. Good merchandise discounts.

    Cons

Not a fan of routine work. Not a job I used as leverage for future work.

I have been working at TJ Maxx

    Pros

I like the other workers and most of the managers.

    Cons

Customers can be rude, the work deserves more pay. Often times it just feels like I'm constantly cleaning up after others, not assisting in sales.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Holiday bonuses, larger raises maybe.

I have been working at TJ Maxx full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

like the workers the company really knows how to get you going

    Cons

the credit cards omg really they make you sell the card which the apr is stupid its all most am forcing you to buy a house they don't hardly train you if they do its one day the hrs are kinda crazy if you want to move up its pretty hard to do

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

stop being so micromanagement and if the customers don't want the card then stop forcing us to sell the thing and we should let them know the truth about the card not just sugar coated it people have hard time making ends meet make the customer feel at home when they shop

I worked at TJ Maxx full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

i worked for tj maxx for 10 yrs everything was good and then i was told to resign or get fired over something stupid

    Cons

lazy associates and arrogant district managers. alot of back stabbing. you cannot trust anyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

take care of people that work hard and dont listen to everyone and make judgements. District managers think they can treat people like dirt. listen to all sides of a story before you make a judgement. what goes around comes around remember karma.

I worked at TJ Maxx part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The company had many opportunities to win stuff for participating in things like quizzes on how to provide good customer service. The management staff was knowledgeable about the tasks involved with the job. Coworkers were nice.

    Cons

The work is definitely very high paced here. You will definitely work hard. A lot of the tasks involved here can become tedious after a while, such as recovering a department. TJ Maxx is a discount store so the items that come in are probably overstock from more luxury, or official stores. This can mean trouble when stocking the shelves. It can become frustrating when the items are all so different and you're expected to make it all look excellent. One of the major things that I noticed about my store was lack of training. I would be sometimes assigned to a department that I have never worked in before and as a result I had to try my best at doing what I had seen others work on in that area.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I believe the management should make sure that employees are particularly trained in areas before assigning them to it. Also, they should switch up associate's duties more often because it seemed like certain associates would receive a much more easier department to recover due to their seniority compared to a new hire. Pay should also be higher than minimum wage based on the hard work that associates are expected to perform.

    Pros

Flexible hours and not a part time job that felt like a full time job. Good work/life balance.

    Cons

Kind of dysfunctional. At times feels like a thrift shop opposed to retail store. Other employees are slightly difficult.

I worked at TJ Maxx part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Were able to work around your schedule, the work you do kept you busy, some managers were nice & taught you a lot of things. You were never set doing one thing so you got training in a lot of areas.

    Cons

Hated the fact you always had to push for credit cards & that managers would interrupt your conversation with costumers over the headset to tell you to ask them for a credit card. I was a refunder & I hated that one manager always made me look dumb in front of the customers like if I was following the rules and procedures he would make the customer feel like they could get one over on the store. If you make rules FOLLOW them, you don't change them on a situation basis, whats right is right, whats wrong is wrong!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Worry less about money & more about your employees then maybe your store would look better & your employees would be happier & want to come to work.

I have been working at TJ Maxx full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Competitive Pay and Benefits, Motivation on Associate Level, Job Security, Room for Growth

    Cons

Lots of seasoned employees not accepting change, long-term uneducated management that don't get reprimanded for their actions, company may be growing to fast

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognition by district and regional staff is scarce. Demanding goals are met, but not thanking when they are, only reprimanding when they aren't. Please value all your employees on every level.
