Exciting Off-Price Retail Environment

Field Management (Former Employee)
Orange, CA

I worked at TJ Maxx full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat Store Culture with growth potential. TJX cares about the team and the community

ConsFocus on numbers sometimes leads to missing the focus on the customer. She loves TJX but she would love it more if the focus remained on her shopping experience

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep the focus on the Customer while not losing the business driving aspect. Great Company but just missing what matters to her shopping experience

Each day is full of surprises!

Sales Associate (Current Employee)
Cadillac, MI

I have been working at TJ Maxx part-time for more than a year

ProsI have been so pleased with TJ Maxx, the employees are amazing. Most places have cliques that make it very difficult to enjoy your work unless you are part of the clique. Management will work with you if you need time off. It's exciting to see new merchandise coming off the trucks. The store changes so often that it breaks up the monotony that you'd find in most jobs.

ConsPromotions don't seem to be very easy to come by. Sometimes its difficult to get things done because there aren't enough people scheduled when large trucks come in. It's not unusual to have a truck come in and only 2 people scheduled in the backroom including the BRC. That means the rest of the employees have to spend less time on what they should be working on and help out to get the product ready to go out on the floor.

Advice to Senior ManagementConsider the employees who have put some time into an education when filling positions for coordinators. Some of us employees have put a lot of time into an education and are working as regular associates in the store instead of being considered for a promotion. This is quite frustrating when we are there in hopes of climbing the ladder within the company and instead of getting promotions, we are seeing people that have considerably less training or education being promoted instead.

A good part-time high school/college job

Sales Associate (Former Employee)
Saint Joseph, MO

I worked at TJ Maxx part-time for more than 3 years

ProsI enjoyed seeing the new merchandise come in the most haha! I also liked that associates are trained in multiple areas so things do not get boring and associates are able to gain experience in multiple areas.

ConsAsking for days off was often a challenge and very old fashioned by filling out a paper.
There was a lot of turn over at the store I worked for with management and sales associates

Advice to Senior ManagementPraise associates more!

Great Place to Work

Sales Associate (Former Employee)
Fort Walton Beach, FL

I worked at TJ Maxx part-time for more than 3 years

ProsTJ Maxx is a really fun work environment. I really enjoyed all of the different parts of the job. You don't do the same things every day. You move around and get to experience different aspects of working in retail.

ConsThe main challenge would be the starting pay rate. Other than that, I think it is a great place to work. I enjoyed working there.

Advice to Senior ManagementI think it would be nice to recognize employees more, either on a store or individual level.

They are really good at helping you learn things that might be new to you (like the cash register).

ConsYou don't always have a steady schedule.
Dealing with some customers can be difficult.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep doing what you're doing.

great company to work for part time.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at TJ Maxx part-time

ProsIts an easy job and they work well around schedules. Tjmaxx trys to show their employees they are appreciated by monthly prizes. Ive had a great experience with super friendly management and have seen employees move up. You do get a discount and there is a lot of awesome merchandise. But the best part is they accept people for who they are, tattoos, piercings, colored hair, race, sexual preference.

ConsThey expect above average retail work for minimum wage, and the raises are very minimum. It will take a long time to move up in the company if they really like you and there is a small employee discount. They expect excellent work and PUSH for you to get credit cards, but with no reward.

Advice to Senior Managementgive cashiers rewards for getting credit cards that you promote soo strongly!
