I worked at TJX Companies full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are a lot of nice people who work for the company. The office space is large and comfortable. If you need time off, they are good with that. Once in a while they will do nice group things for the employees.

    Cons

This company can be hard to move up in. If a supervisor or higher up doesn't like you, your gone. Even if you work hard, it all comes down to liking you. The supervisors make it kind of obvious if they personally don't like you too. Some supervisors act pretty immature.Raises are a joke there. The database is from the 80's and is not user friendly. The work you do takes double the time due to the old program they use.

I worked at TJX Companies part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Some of the people you work with are helpful and work well together; usually the older employees.

    Cons

Working with the teens and twenty-somethings. They tend to be lazy and feel entitled.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Reward hard work.

I worked at TJX Companies full-time

    Pros

Great peers for the most part, company believes in work-life balance and allowed telecommuting, compensation and incentives were great, management was approachable, good company values, lots of long term employees.

    Cons

Company can be sort of cult-like. Some peers only engage vertically (to senior mgmt) and it has a negative impact on team cohesiveness. Have to know how to navigate the political landscape to be successful but the tables can turn quickly and leave you an outcast. Amount of long term employees makes it hard to move into other areas. Hard to advance if you are not an anointed one.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer real variety in roles and viable career mobility options. Identify and better manage employees that are toxic.

I worked at TJX Companies full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The work was fairly interesting, although I would finish all of it within 2 hours and then have 6 hours with nothing to do. My boss got upset with me and trained me to stretch it out for 8 hours, which was excruciating to do. The building is beautiful. It is easy to get to... Exit 13 off the Mass Pike and turn left after the toll..... Nice co-workers. Modern technology at your disposal. Lunch in the cafeteria was delicious. Getting to meet influential people in the Boston area (as part of community outreach initiatives). Attending corporate-to-retail conferences.

    Cons

Micro-management; no potential for growth. I interned there for 6 months. After 6 months of great performance reviews, I asked my boss for a raise. (Was making $15 / hour with no benefits). He said he couldn't authorize it - talk to his boss. So I did. After a 10 minute conversation about BS small talk, his boss finally dropped the PC/corporate crap long enough to intimate to me that I would have to wait around for 3-4 YEARS before being considered a full-time employee because my boss's department was not ready to expand. The man wanted to keep me at an intern level for FOUR years.... I gave my 2 weeks' notice immediately.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make growth opportunities possible for employes. PAY BETTER! This is BOSTON. It's not CHEAP to live here. Your company grosses multiple millions per year. Invest some in your people... (A novel idea!). Loosen up the dress code a little bit. I get it... you're a clothing retailer, but I got tired of listening to my boss tell me how amazing his $3,000 suit was as I sat there in a pair of cheap dress pants, a button-down shirt, and tie. I would rather be wearing khakis, a polo shirt, and sandals in the summer.

I have been working at TJX Companies full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

401k for FT and PT, benefits for FT after 1 year, PTO for FT and PT

    Cons

pay is not equal to the amount of work, managers are very disrespectful and treat employees like they don't matter, talk bad about associates behind their backs, and seem to only care about themselves/their store.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

learn how to treat your associates with respect. the company always talks about the bottom line.....well bottom line is, store associates are the ones making you rich while they continue making minimum wage and are told they aren't doing enough. store managers
are crazy and practically eat sleep and breathe marshalls/tjmaxx etc. it's just a store people....stop stepping on people to reach your goals

I have been working at TJX Companies full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - clearly mapped out career path
    - job security
    - good 401k and health insurance plans
    - sufficient PTO
    - interesting types of work (product oriented)

    Cons

    - when business isn't good, people are quick to point fingers
    - no management training = bad/uneducated managers
    - they try to train people but consistently leave employees more confused than before the training.
    - very old and outdated IT systems that impede productivity rather than improve it. The entire IT infrastructure for merchandising makes the job far more difficult than it should be.
    - HR is extremely misleading about duration of career path at point of hire
    - very high turn over. Only 8/33 members of my new employee class still remaining at the company after only 2 years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - improve trainings -- better courses, better instructors. Having an educated workforce will drive success in the future. Focus on human capital development to improve business process rather than lousy, unproven, time wasting strategies that show little to no benefits or progress
    - offer more trainings.
    - improve IT systems and the communication between programs
    - remember that we are selling clothes not curing cancer

I have been working at TJX Companies full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Decent benefit. Nice work environment. Somewhat flexible schedule. Okay hours. Okay vacation & retirement benefits, although recent changes have made them much less attractive for long time employees.

    Cons

Managers are egotistic, rude, overbearing & in general treat their employees very poorly to the point of harassment. Money could (and should) be better. Limited advancement opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better training for management - they need people skills and should be held accountable for their bad behavior. Employees are tired of being belittled and treated like they're worthless.
