I have been working at TSA (Transportation Security Administration)

    Pros

This is a second career for me. Compared to the commercial sector the benefits are great and there's virtually no waiting period. The starting pay scale is not that great but there are opportunities to advance. The upper management that I've been dealing with have been awesome.

    Cons

Starting pay and time off policies,

I worked at TSA (Transportation Security Administration)

    Pros

Benefits are great. The officers and supervisors are very professional. It's a good stepping stone for younger people to get their feet wet and move on to bigger and better things within the federal government especially within DHS.

    Cons

Micromanagement and favoritism by local senior leadership. Local senior leadership seems to always look for things that people are doing wrong than good. Very low employee morale. Salaries for TSA are not in line with other DHS organizations. TSA needs to pay their officers a better salary. Leave and shift bidding is a nightmare. Promotions are very hard to get. TSA will drive your morale into the ground.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate and value your employees. Especially employees that have been there a long time.

I worked at TSA (Transportation Security Administration)

    Pros

Great work environment; fun atmosphere. Great work for those who love working with people. No two days are ever the same.

    Cons

Low pay; terrible hours/schedule. Difficult to move up in the company regardless of seniority. New TSOs should not expect weekends off or holidays off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Should create more opportunities to move up in company.

    Pros

There is a lot of room for growth and opportunity to advance. You work for your scheduled hours and htere is nothing ot take home with you.

    Cons

Work hours can be odd shifts and jobs require a lot of physical movement and being on your feet for long periods of time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat people as indivduals, not as numbers. View situations on a case by case basis.

I have been working at TSA (Transportation Security Administration) full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The $$ was good, but the shifts weren't too family friendly. The shifts killed me the most because its not routine, not even for a 3 month period. I liked getting exposed to the diverse public (except the crazies) its interesting to view some one else's perspective on security.

    Cons

Having to deal with difficult passengers were a pain in the neck

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make more job courses equally available to everyone else not just your buddies or your favorites.
