I was a phlebotomist at Talecris.

    Phlebotomist (Former Employee) Portland, OR

ProsGained a lot of experience with venipuncture and monitoring donors for plasmapherisis reactions. Also learned about how plasma is utilized for medical conditions and the process to use it as a medical supply.

ConsThe training was very thorough. Almost too thorough though. I had to read a training manual that was literally 1,000 pages long before I could start venipuncture. I felt like it was a method to weed out the weak that weren't really interested in phlebotomy.

Prossome good people both donors and staff, decent breaks, good training time

Conssome of the leads shouldnt have their position, communication was off, for someone with hospital and certifications in what they do the pay was low.

RUN if you want a life

    Training Coordinator (Former Employee)

    ProsSalary is decent
    My manager is okay
It is a job in a poor economy.
Better to collect the plasma than donate the plasma.

ConsSince Grifols has taken over...benefits not as good, business model is purely production number driven . hours are terrible.

I like Talecris Plasma resources, it was close to home and I liked the pay.

Plasma Processor I (Current Employee) Saginaw, MI

ConsAll of management doesn't help out the employees when they fall behind, just some.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement needs to lead by example

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

A long haul to go public, then comes the sellout.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Bloomington, IL

    ProsHealth insurance
    Comfortable yet busy work place
    Staff are mostly awesome
    Sundays always off

    ConsUncertainty due to recent firings
Buyout by Grifols makes long time staff less valuable
Management lacks independence from corporate that it once had

Advice to Senior ManagementStand up for you staff. You know their character, now keep yours by fighting for the good ones.

Treat the donors better. They are the lifeblood of your business, literally, so a gatorade or a speedpass will mean nothing when your numbers drop too low for Grifols to maintain you.

Don't badmouth hourly staff to other hourly staff--every word you say gets back to them. If a person is willing to sit and listen to badmouthing, they are willing to share it with everyone else, and that becomes part of your character to the whole staff.

Remember that "Go read the SOP" is only a fair answer if it's followed with "and I'll do your job for you while you read the SOP" because the staff with good work ethic will simply go ask someone else instead of making donors wait.

good place to start a career, but the company is always in the market for sale

Senior Process Development Engineer (Former Employee) Clayton, NC

ProsA good location in the matter of cost of living. Nice weather in North Carolina. Close to three very good universities.

ConsOverstaffed in R&D, and too many layers in management. Communication is slow, and morale is low. People feel unsafe due the company is always on sale.
