I worked at Talisman Energy as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Never a dull moment; great if you enjoy ambiguous environment and jumping in and figuring things our for yourself. Great people to work with. Plenty of big problems that need solving.

    Cons

Top leadership is pretty dysfunctional, and that puts a lot of pressure on middle management. Lack of career growth support or opportunities. Lack of transparency. Wants to "walk the walk" but has tough time doing it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't settle, keep pushing to get better and better.

I worked at Talisman Energy (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    great people
    great wage
    excellent benefits
    exciting projects to work on
    mostly collaborative environment

    Cons

limited room to grow for people starting off their careers in many areas
too much change; change is a good thing only when its balanced. The past few years there has been a little too much change
Same projects seem to be redone all the time as people do not stay in roles long enough to created improvement to existing ways

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to be more stabilized in management, and roles. Workforce planning is always on the back burner and thus young staff do not have anywhere to move but out of the organization.

I have been working at Talisman Energy full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Good compensation
    Plenty of time off
    Education funding/support
    Co-workers are quite friendly
Plenty of highly skilled professional who are willing to help u progress. Just ask!
No rigid working hours structure. When there is no work, you can leave early etc..

    Cons

The stock price is at its lowest for the last 10 years. That says it all. This is obviously affecting employee performance and moral. How much lower could it go?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Selling assets and payment of debt is not a vision/mission of a company. It is merely a plan of debt repayment. That has been the whole focus of the company: asset sale to pay debt. A company should have a better vision that merely this!

I have been working at Talisman Energy full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Talisman has provided me with a lot of development opportunites, including an expatriate assignment and ability to work in various roles. Although many people have come and gone, there are still a lot of smart, fun and technically strong people here.

    Cons

Too much inconsistency with senior management from actual people changes to leadership and values modelling.
Highly complex structure and inconsistency in approaches.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure leaders walk the walk and talk the talk and provide more clarity about accountabilities for the given structure (e.g. regional versus central)
