    Organized team based work

    Store Operator (Former Employee)
    Smyrna, GA

ProsThe pros are that you should be working with nice coworkers, supervisors and managers. They offer flexible hours so you can go to school and work. Also the team and structure of the day is very organized as well as the store.

ConsBusy holidays and weekends can be rough if you do not enjoy retail, helping people, and making sales in general. You have to be able to multitask or you will be overwhelmed.

    One of my favorite jobs

    Starbucks Team Member (Former Employee)
    Towson, MD

ProsGreat staff, two breaks, honestly just a great place to work all around.

ConsThe original team leader for Starbucks went to school full time so the team leader from food ave had to take over. She was unwilling to work with my schedule as this was a second job and was very rude and snarky on several different occasions. I handled it poorly by calling out and eventually not showing up. Biggest mistake I've ever made

    Nice job while attending college

Guest Service Team Member (Former Employee)
    Lakeland, FL

ProsFlexible scheduling, LOA for Education, store discount, retail experience

ConsPoor management chain, slow advancement if you come in at lowest levels, REDcard promotion needs improvement, poor training, low pay.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop bullying team members and guests with REDcard's, the REDcard is a neat product that should sell itself. Give better training and involve the front-end team members with the entire store. For most guests, the front-end is the only contact that guest will have with a Target team member, ensure that those team members are properly trained and able to bring the highest quality experience to the Guest. Also, if Target wants to have the best team members they need to provide better pay and benefits.

-Those who work hard are often passed over

Advice to Senior ManagementTeam members' experience depends upon you. Give everyone with equal respect and give equal treatment and you'll have a happy team.

There are lots of improvement areas but it is a good transitional work spot

    Flow Team Member (Current Employee)
    Greenbelt, MD

ProsThere is room to develop your career if you want to be in that type of environment where numbers matter. There are many people that you will meet that will increase your understanding of the retail industry.

ConsThere are always going to be cons to a work environment. The specific store I worked out had many issues that they need to take care of which is why I rate the company at three stars. If the regional or district store changed the system so that individual stores did not have to cut corners to stay in specific compliance ranges the store I am working at wouldn't be so behind in their work load. The stress due to that is seen in management and makes for lower moral as well as less efficient team effort from team members. It is very frustrating to see one person that does half the work of another team member when that other team member still is not working at his or her full potential.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere should be more inter-work space help where experience team members work to help complete task that have been missed and use supplementary team members to help keep the task on pace when there are situations where guests need help.

    It was an okay experience.

Sales Attendant, Cart Attendant, Cashier (Former Employee)
    Watchung, NJ

ProsWorking as a cashier there, it was pretty simple. My job was part time and I only worked about five hours a day during the week. Weekends I had off.

ConsGetting raises were difficult. Some people would get them when they didn't even deserve them. Some of the managers are nasty. They don't care about the workers and the benefits are sub par.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive some credit to your workers. Treat them how they deserve.

It's a good job if they like you

    Entertainment Specialist (Current Employee)
    Tampa, FL

ProsIf they like you, you will fit in well. You will get all the hours you want, you name it.

ConsTarget is slowly changing their rules. You pretty much get paid the same, your department will get less and less hours, and you will have to work a larger area all in the same amount of time and be expected to get it all done.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't be elitist. Work WITH your team. Be personal and friendly. Get to know them.

    Great for collage students

    Team Leader (Current Employee)

ProsScheduling around school and church has been ideal! discounts from red card and employee discount is AWSOME! Fun activities in the break room, and volunteer events are worth wild!

ConsNot able to accept tips in Starbucks. Target has gotten away from balancing home and work. It is sad when they know you have kids but yet make you close on Christmas Eve which gets later and later each year. And then have to work two shifts on thanksgiving open go home and sleep then come back to close with no choice about it. Then you get told if you don't you will get a corrective action which can lead to termination.

Advice to Senior ManagementSome people learn from visual activities, and I feel we have to read a lot of paper work to learn our jobs. I do not always fully understand my job and feel dumb to ask what I'm suppose to do or know, and if I do ask they do not fully understand my job to help me further my career. 1 week training is not enough in Starbucks and think that we should be trained in a real Starbucks and certified there!
