Target is a great place to start your management career out of college, but I wouldn't make it a long-term plan.

I have been working at Target full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Team work atmosphere (all my peers and I work very well as a team), Pay (great starting salary out of college and increased salary though pay grade promotions twice within three years), Benefits (generally pretty good health benefits, tuition reimbursement program, etc.), Promotional opportunities (if you are willing to work hard to produce "green" results, there is a lot of room for advancement)

    Cons

Hours (Rotating weekends and closing shifts, which can make it hard to have work/life balance), Constant change in leadership (store, group, and regional leaders), Desperate attempts to increase sales, Low pay for hourly employees which leads to high turnover and extra stress for managers, Payroll allocation (minimal payroll hours means less employees on the sales floor to help guests and complete tasks), Logistics process (it seems like every store I know struggles with the logistics process, yet the company turns a blind eye to the issue)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Pay your hourly workers more. It is ridiculous the expectations Target has for minimum wage employees. If you expect the best, compensate your employees with a reasonable amount.
    - Stop cutting resources at the store level. I've seen managers and hourly employees take more and more shortcuts to get the workload done over the years. It negatively affects overall store morale and disguises the level of operations a store truly has.
-Find a way to retain talent and to gain a better reputation as a great place to work. Stop blaming the store leadership for silly things like not giving enough recognition and not planning enough FFF events as the reason for turnover. Everyone knows that's not the cause to the horrible retention at Target.

    Cons

I worked at Target part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

You do get 15 minutes breaks every four hours(paid) and an unpaid 30 minute break every 6 hours. They pay you usually a little higher than the minimum wage. There is room for growth if you desire to stick around and learn about different areas.

    Cons

If you start part time at story you will be lucky if you even get 15 hours a week. Here in Miami I started with that and as soon as you saw less customer traffic your hours were practically non-existent. They are pretty disorganized on this. You do not receive any insurance benefits being part time until you have worked there for at least 6 months.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop letting computers handle scheduling hours and actually see for yourself how you can give enough hours to every employee, especially during busy times.

    Pros

Good benefits. Well paid , just worked waaaaay more hours than I wanted to
