I worked at Target full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The management varies, but they seem to be a pretty decent company to work for (as far as a first job is concerned)

    Cons

Hours can be kinda sporadic sometimes

I have been working at Target

    Pros

Friendly atmosphere, lots of breaks light workload you might not expect.

    Cons

Overnight, the overnight does attract a couple of weird people and your sleep cycle won't maintain at a predictable pace...

I have been working at Target (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very friendly, in the fact that they are willing to promote from within. Target does offer health benefits (if you meet a certain average hours per week) and they also match up to 5% in their 401K.

    Cons

Starting pay could be higher. Time off is decent, but you have to put in the request several weeks ahead of time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If the company started their new hires with higher wages, the turnover rate would be less.

I worked at Target as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

At 20 years old and halfway through my undergrad, I was leading and managing a Target Store for periods of time as an Executive Intern. The company invests a lot in personal development and growth, something I admire. Overall, the culture is terrific, it paid well and I learned a lot.

    Cons

Hours are miserable. Since you're training to be an assistant store manager, you're expected to come in for whatever hours your mentor has. For instance, 4am until 12pm shifts, 4pm until 12:30pm shifts, etc. are randomly assigned. Harsh politics too on which Target Store you work at (I had to commute 45min each way... ugh).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please listen to the requests of team members in which store to place them!

I have been working at Target full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    Because I work overnight I get a 50 cents raise. From 11pm til 12am I make 9.50/hr and from 12am-8am I make 10/hr.

    Cons

Its a lot of work as far as stocking and you have to keep the pressure going because it has to be completed before the store opens.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Target full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Constructive feedback, a sense of unity, leadership development opportunities and training, and a happy, positive environment (behind the scenes, and on the sales floor)! You pretty much always walk away knowing that you made a guest happy, because that is what Target aims to do! Fast, Fun, Friendly.

    Cons

Lots of feedback (I don't mind, but for those who don't like it, it could be a con), Interns are 40hrs/week but if offered the position, you start at 50hrs/week, and many of the managers I know end up working close to 60hrs/week and are checking their emails on their days off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Target is proud to say they encourage a healthy work-life balance, but for management, it just doesn't seem to hold true. I don't think this is necessarily a company problem, but just a problem for all retail managers in general. The workload is very heavy, and from what I learned Target has cut back on management positions and increased the departments/workload that the remaining managers are responsible for.
