I had a great experience co-workers were awesome, managers were supportive and learned lots.

    Geology Student (Former Employee)

ProsThey are very safety oriented, equal balance of work and life, relocation pay, supportive managers. Room to move up, and courses to continue education in relevant technology.

ConsThey could improve camp facilities, but that is only a personal opinion.

Great work-life balance in the Elk Valley, but more limited opportunities

Process Engineering Coop Student (Current Employee) Sparwood, BC (Canada)

Pros- fantastic locations: can live in the ski resort town of Fernie, BC and mines are situated in the Rocky Mountains
    - as a process engineering student, you work in a small team which is nice to get to know everyone
    - good compensation
    - transportation from some of the towns to the mine sites
    - extremely good safety culture...seriously! People will tell you to put safety equipment on if you walk around the plant without it

Cons- not really taken seriously as a less than 8 month co-op student
    - must buy all own safety gear
    - not many full-time positions available upon graduation
    - minimal interaction with operators
    - HR is not very "on-the-ball", very late to respond to issues and quite vague

Teck is a very forwarding thinking company focused on ensuring shareholder value is maintained.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Vancouver, BC (Canada)

ProsVery focused on Safety of employees and those living in the communities where the company has mining operations. Concerned about environmental impacts associated with its mining operations and focused on ensuring initiatives are taken to lessen the overall impact.

ConsWith operations globally and its diverse range of products, there are plenty of job opportunities available within the company and management supports employee growth and advancement. There isn't really any cons to working for the company.

    Teck Cominco

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe company has an excellent family culture, as well as an environment of giving back to communities that it works in. Supports several large charities in very meaninful ways.

ConsThe culture does have a tendency to be resistant to change, since many employees are very long term employees who are used to do things a certain way. Can be frustrating for young professionals.

Advice to Senior ManagementJust because something was the best approach 15 years ago, does not mean it is the approach now. Times are changing quickly.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
