I have been working at Tektronix full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Friendly people, relaxed work environment, decent perks (gym, disk golf, turf field)

    Cons

Stringy budgeting, slower to innovate than it was 20 years ago. Not adapting change/modern ideas as quickly as they should.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more money on resources! More good employees + more money for the rights tools = better products and faster cycle time.

I have been working at Tektronix full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    Very lean oriented
    Great people
    Welcoming atmosphere
    Interesting and diverse products
On campus sports facilities and recreation

    Cons

Market for most products isn't growing
large Layoffs have happened in the last year and it looks like more could be coming
the engineers left after the last layoff are stretch very thin
the workforce here is older than other places i have worked

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management has trouble putting the resources they know they will need in place until they are at or past scheduled deadlines.

I worked at Tektronix full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of freedom and support. Generally very good products but long on the tooth.

    Cons

Was getting more and more cost driven with little evidence of passion and innovation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Release the purse strings, put more money into R&Dnbut much more importantly make it fun to be an employee and contributor.

I have been working at Tektronix full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Small teams, smart people to work with. Large corporation benefits. Great tools to work with. Starbucks is on campus. Management listens to and takes care of employees. Some people have been here for over 30 years. Because teams are so small, it's easy to find challenges and not be pigeon-holed like other big companies that may start with an i.

    Cons

No stock options, large corporation (Danaher Corp). Not as nimble. Cafeteria could be deleted and it would taste better. The company is located in Beaverton, and it could be deleted too and Oregon would be nicer.

I have been working at Tektronix full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The pay is good, and the benefits are average. Co-workers are really nice, but a majority of the personnel are aging, however this gives room for upward mobility as people retire from long held positions

    Cons

The staff are mostly set in their ways and with a recent buyout by Danaher there is plenty of good old days syndrome to go around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start bringing in new blood, stop hiring so many temporary employees. The company was obviously built on home grown talent and it is time to start that process again.

I have been working at Tektronix full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Tektronix is a solid company with a very strong brand recognition in the test and measurement industry. Our customers trust that a Tektronix product will perform as specified and we stand behind it.

    Cons

All companies have their share of issues, however none at Tektronix stand out worse than any other public company. My biggest negative would be the relentless pursuit to squeeze expenses to satisfy shareholders....that's status quo for any public company these days!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Execute on the R&D investments so we can overtake the competitors. Don't try to keep the same platforms for more than 7 years because the competition will take market share.
