I could no longer build things faster than management destroyed them

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat company for a long time

ConsManagement became incompetent over time, never infused new thoughts or abilities, made decisions in a vacuum and never created a viable strategy. This same management is now trying to turn the company around. The right people were never developed and what is left is only credit stealing posers that have a distorted view or reality.

Advice to Senior ManagementHopefully the new owners will realize the true source of the problem but it is almost too late. It will be sliced into pieces and become part of history.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

What happens when you have east coast mentality trying to enter a west coast dominated field

Staff Engineer (Current Employee) Santa Clara, CA

ProsThe Santa Clara team is an exceptional team with highly talented individuals, the likes of which are slim in the valley. Great set of employees to work with and what a fun filled and challenging environment. Loved my 8 yrs of "working" there. This i Say because of the people and the product.
    great
"Was" an ideal place to learn about the indust

ConsThe single star review is because no matter how good a product or engineering team you have it really does not matter when you don't have a visionary running the company.
    - Started off by lack of vision with top management and that never changed even with multiple restructuring CEO changes
    - Then things got slimy with BoD getting greedy.
    - Sales team has no clue. Does not know how to sell a product.

Advice to Senior ManagementAdvice can only be given to people who are listening. Everyone including the management knows that they are preparing to shut it down. Anything else that is conveyed to employees or shareholders is sadly not the truth.

Tellabs Engineer = Thanksgiving turkey, unreliable company to work

Senior Software Engineer (Former Employee) Santa Clara, CA

Pros1. They are good in making fool by giving offer little above market

Cons1. Extremely unstable company to work for. Be prepared for layoff after 2-3 weeks of hire
    2. Engineers are like thanksgiving turkey which may cut on or before thanksgiving
    3. After hiring they would make you work like anything. Very stressful work environment
    4. Management is big mess

Advice to Senior Management1. Wipe out all existing management including CEO. Bring new and mature management who do not believe in layoff concept and rather treat engineers with respect (Not like thanksgiving turkey)

No opportunity of career advancement and the company working on legacy technology

Senior Network Engineer (Current Employee) Santa Clara, CA

ProsYou already have other source of income and you would like to get medical benefits along with a decent pay.

ConsLamers are left behind. The talent has already moved to other companies in the silicon valley.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe east coast boys have no clue what they are doing. Keep it up!

Management has no clue & Bad place to work.

Senior Hardware Engineer (Current Employee) Santa Clara, CA

ProsAll I can say is that it is a pay check. They did give an additional two percent discretionary contribution towards the 401k. Engineers I worked with were great, but they were all fired in January 2012.

ConsAll levels of management are completely incompetent. It is no surprise that Tellabs is using up their cash and going nowhere fast. If you work here, or if your company is acquired by Tellabs, start looking for a better job right away.
The 401k choices are really limited and poor.
    Avoid Tellabs at all costs.

    Worst Managed Company

Staff Engineer (Current Employee) Santa Clara, CA

    ProsNone.

Engineers who are competent and passionate about work.

    ConsPolitics.
Senior Management, who is clue less about the future and in providing direction and focus to the Engineering team.

Advice to Senior ManagementJokers, get the hell out of here and let the Engineers work in the productive environment.

Professional and talented people but how Corporate strategy will help them ?

    Regional Sales Director (Former Employee)

    ProsProfessional and talented people
The working environment is both professional and friendly

ConsProduct strategy driven by financial requirements, decision to stop the next gen data products and to concentrate on legacy data product lines back in Jan 2013 favors next quarter revenues but to the detriment of the future of the company. Unclear strategy, try to survive in a hyper competitive environment

Advice to Senior Managementensure long term development of the company with a suitable product strategy to provide employees with a clear, consistent and plausible vision and to survive in this hyper competitive environment

    regional sales director

    Regional Sales Director (Current Employee)

ProsFriendly atmosphere, good teamwork as well as professional

    Consunclear product & solution strategy
Tellabs smaller and smaller, becomes marginalised in markets either dominated by giants (mobile routing) or aggregated (optical, 15+ competitors)

Advice to Senior ManagementClarify strategy, invest more in the solutions focused by Tellabs to become more competitive and relevant to grab new market share

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
