I have been working at Telstra full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Telstra is a great place to work, full of very talented capable people. There's very flexible working conditions, I work from home or wherever four days a week. Good range of packages and benefits

    Cons

It can be a very large company to work in with lots of lots of people. This means that sometimes things take a long time and you can feel disconnected from upper management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be nice if we had a proper annual christmas party. Right now there's just a lame 25$ pps which gets shared on the floor, so we meet at the pub and have beer and pub food.

I have been working at Telstra full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Primary benefit of the company is the ability to work from home (or just out of the office), and most people being understanding of family commitments.

    Cons

Very political at the upper levels; more focussed on self rather than company or employees whilst trying to maintain the façade that the care about the latter. This is especially true in the IT side of the organisation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too focussed on bringing external influence in, rather than promoting internal talent; resulting in the best people leaving.

I have been working at Telstra as a contractor for more than 3 years

    Pros

Relatively stable job, flexible working hours, renumeration is above industry average, working for a brand that I believe in.

    Cons

In retail customer service, the clientele is rude and treats you like you're scum for working for the company. People don't really take their job seriously and there is too much micromanagement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No more micromanagement - we're all adults, please don't make us beg for toilet/lunch breaks.

I have been working at Telstra as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Great culture, laid back, very friendly people. Great place to work at, I can see myself working here for a long time.

    Cons

Sometimes too laid back, things take so long to get through the system especially when applying for and starting new jobs. Took ages to get my contract when I first started. HR is all over the place.

I have been working at Telstra full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are great opportunities to move up and around the organisation.
There is a good work culture, with the workplace being inclusive and friendly.
There is lots of flexibility, in terms of work location and work hours.
The work is generally quite interesting and meaningful.

    Cons

There is a holdover from the old days that manifests itself in the organisation having a bureaucratic nature. There are lots of approvals and process that can slow down the pace of work and hinder positive outcomes.
The organisation is sometimes slow-moving, because of its size and culture.
There is still a legacy of a public service mentality among some employees and in some processes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Transform, move away from the public service mentality to a private sector mentality.
