I have been working at Tenaris full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Meaningful work, international experiences, and long term commitment to high performers. If you are committed, smart, and vocal then Tenaris will work to make you happy. Very much a place where you have to ask and push for what you want instead of expecting it to come to you. Recent additions of local employees to higher level positions are appreciated. Extremely sharp upper management, the company is wildly profitable when compared to competitors.

    Cons

The USA office was created by merging two acquired companies under the Tenaris name and created some cultural tension. Work life balance can be tough in some departments and generational expectations about work can become issues when cultural expectations come into play. Sometimes the commitment to tenured employees keeps a lot of dead weight afloat. Not a company for people with thin skin or for someone looking for "just a job".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more transparent, find ways to reduce bureaucracy, and adapt to your emerging markets. This isn't Campana in 1980.

    Pros

Great training program. Company teaches you fundamentals of tubular industry.
    Good health insurance benefits.
Company is leader in its industry

    Cons

Promotions are political. Argentines get the best options. Difficult to climb ladder if you are not Argentines. Opaque performance approval process. Many managers with poor leadership skills.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take risks by being open to contrarian opinion

I have been working at Tenaris full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The people, culture and the products are great. The company is expanding and investing heavily in the United States.

    Cons

Work life balance is tough. Tenaris runs very lean and it can mean working long hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more people and start focusing on local talent and not bringing in as many Ex-Pats. to fill positions in the United States.

    Pros

Great place to develop a long time career, lots of training, safety improving every day, very analytically oriented, lots of opportunities to grow, specially for young people.

    Cons

Company trying to reduce the headcounts in all levels leaving the people overloaded. Still not a people oriented company. Plants that are not in Houston are in the middle of nowhere, which makes the talent runaway.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maintain the people by trying to improve their work-life balance.

    Pros

Good workplace to learn. Company has a successful business model and have smart, hard working people working for them. Strong in procedures and process management.

    Cons

Top management is all from Argentina, Mexico, or Italy. If you are not from one of this countries, growth opportunities will be few to none.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on life / work balance to attract more US employees.

I have been working at Tenaris full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Safe environment, decent pay, great benefits

    Cons

Management and supervisors are quick to come take a picture of something, email it it every supervisor in the plant, make a big deal out of something instead of talking to the operator and asking why they are doing something in a particular way (usually they have no idea why the operators are doing what caused them to take the picture)
Work floor is extremely loud, hearing protection is offered, but hearing loss will happen to anyone who spends multiple years on the production floor.
There is a definite need for an air filtration system, the heat treat process releases a red dust into the air which is easily inhaled by people on the floor. Sinus infections are unavoidable, and constant. I'm sure there are other health factors involved with the inhalation of the red dust as well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate directly with employees instead of emailing

    Pros

Nice workplace with good people that can teach you a lot. Challenging high impact work from the beginning. Great place to start. Good benefits.

    Cons

Management can sometimes be overly top down. Lots of frustrating norms and procedures that don't add much value. Salary a little on the light side.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut out the excess reporting and automate the standard reporting. There is such a thing as too lean. When a 60 hour work week is the norm something isn't working.

    Cons
