I have been working at Teradata full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

A company that truly recognizes A+ players. Great way to find mentors and grow. The biggest plus is the Fortune customers are loyal to Teradata for their support/services and in general the utility of the product. That's the environment that's generally hard to get with other competitors. The leadership strives hard to keep up with the change in the market place as they still a bit old school in thinking (Can't blame the company - it's been around for so many years and also successful - why do you need to change ?)

    Cons

Teradata has trouble keeping top performers who generally move to startups because they get bored because of limited engagement with employees. On the positive side, it can also empower the top performers because there is a lot of space to grow as company does not discourage creativiity ! The top minds who are willing to stay back can have a great time at work even though the pay many not be super competitive compared to other companies in this space.

I worked at Teradata as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Teradata has a very unique training style. It can be a bit confusing until you understand how they role. The people are nice and they seem more like a family than co-workers. It has a very laid back atmosphere yet can be very busy. Nobody appears stressed out or in a hurry.

    Cons

Back to the "unique" training style, I can see how it could work. However, if your sent to do a job and have wrenches thrown in, it can mess you up. You have to at least know to look out for them (in my humble opinion at least).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have a great team that really cares about their work. This is unusual for the typical enterprise employee. Keep up the good work ...and maybe reconsider training techniques a little.

    Pros

Working with top notch technology and coworkers. Much more age and gender diverse workforce than many tech companies.

    Cons

The only downside is the amount of travel that goes with consulting, but this is part of the job description and not anything Teradata can do anything about. We have to go where the clients are.

I have been working at Teradata full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay...bonus and other benefits...leading edge company on the forefront of BIG data and analytics. great opportunities for advancement. They also are very understanding and supportive of a great balance between work and life and do realize you have a family.

    Cons

As with any large organization, politics, unfortunately, play a part in the company culture. For example, spinning off as our own corporate entity from NCR gave us an opportunity to fix some of the previous culture's broken processes. Instead of fixing them, we took them lock, stock, and barrel and will "fix them later". That's just a silly management decision and, of course, they still have not been fixed, three years later.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

LISTEN to your people. You tout them as experts, but don't listen when they suggest opportunities for organizational improvements

I have been working at Teradata full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    -Good training
-Good support (I was given 2 months off to care for an ill family member, no questions asked)
-The best can rise to the top quickly
-If you are aggressive, there are lots of places to go.
-They have the best data warehouse from the ground up, and they've had it that way for 30 years. There is a reason Apple uses our systems for all the analytic on their stores.
-Lots of very intelligent and experienced guys that aren't intimidated by a bright young person, and will teach you!

    Cons

    -HR is ineffective and bloated.
-Internal systems need to be more coordinated and streamlined.
-This is not a job for a person with small children.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Tighten the coordination between what we sell, and what PS delivers. Penalize SAs and salesmen who undercut their PS team by committing to deliverables without securing funding for them.
