I have been working at Texas Roadhouse full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company is definitely one that cares about its employees. It is an entry-level job, so lots of people are able to learn how to work with customers and get an opportunity to have cash in their pockets everyday.

    Cons

The leadership is struggling. They are having issues retaining the good employees and are struggling with motivating the staff members.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to maintain the ones that are good employees and are beneficial members of the team. Show them that they are, in fact, truly appreciated for their efforts.

I worked at Texas Roadhouse part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Worked for Texas Roadhouse for over 6 years all together. Very fun environment. Will train you if you've never had experience so just give it a try if you think it's something you would like. Not a difficult job as long as you do what you are supposed to do. A great way to learn service skills as well as learning to deal with all types of people!

    Cons

Of course the instability of a servers wage is hard to deal with sometimes. Do a great job and you will make great money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have worked for a store that has had high turnover with management and it is extremely hard for the rest of us. It's like having to deal with your moms new boyfriend every couple of months! Consistency is very important between all of the managers. Also worked for a store that had the same FOH and BOH managers for a very long time and they knew exactly what type of relationship to have with the rest of us. Perfect amount of friendship and respect between us in order to work together and enjoy it.

I worked at Texas Roadhouse full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Fun culture
    - Didn't seem as corporate as other chain restaurants
    - Good management overall

    Cons

    - Seniority matters (not necessarily a con, but stay longer to earn better shifts)
    - Common to most restaurants, tips fluctuate
    - Some silly chain restaurant ideas do creep into the job (e.g., line dancing, stock table/guest greeting)

I have been working at Texas Roadhouse part-time for less than a year

    Pros

The culture is great, the food is great. I love my work family and I really enjoy going into work. Best of all? $$$

    Cons

Too scripted for my liking, our "story" seems to annoy some guests and it makes me feel awkward. Also, the line dances need some work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think drink specials would be something to give serious consideration to, I find myself having a hard time selling drinks at times.

I worked at Texas Roadhouse full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Flexibility, Excellent food quality, commitment to employee satisfaction, excellent clientele and co-workers. Management is very clear on what they expect from you.

    Cons

Guest/ clientele relations can be tense at times. The host stand can completely ruin a guests night, very easily. Mostly only open at night can be a bit stressful if this is your only job. If this is your only job don't expect to have much of a life outside of work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Although three table sections are part of the doctrine a server should never be given a two table section unless they just got out of training. Three table sections is a sweet spot.

I worked at Texas Roadhouse part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company is close knit and offers a lot of sales incentives and perks for self-driven team members. Also will offer awards and prizes for team members of the month. I saw quite a few servers get moved to bartending or key positions in the year I worked there showing there was ample opportunity for advancement. The kitchen is run very well and every detail is attended to so that there's very few hiccups in the consistency of food and the time it takes to comes out.

    Cons

The company was so focused on making sure customer's received good service that nobody ever received more than three table sections at a time. This was even during very slow weekday lunch shifts. A busy Friday or Saturday night the majority of servers would only receive two table sections. This would make it nearly impossible to make money and was very discouraging when the menu did offer potential for high checks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put a little faith in your employees and give them bigger sections. People with any experience in the industry are able to handle it, and those that aren't can be weeded out quickly.

I have been working at Texas Roadhouse

    Great College Job

    Former Employee - Server
    Former Employee - Server

I worked at Texas Roadhouse for more than 3 years

    Pros

Interact with a tremendous amount of people on a daily basis. Whether its guests or the 50+ employees that might be on during a single shift, you get to interact with people constantly while you work which makes shifts fly by. Great team atmosphere and ability to make pretty good money with tips

    Cons

Working for tips on a server wage while paying other employees wages through tip share. Consumes your social life as you spend every night and most weekends at the restaurant. Don't stick around as a server if you graduate! Terrible to see people in their late 20s with college degrees still waiting tables.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more male servers and don't keep front of house 95% female and back of house 99% male
