I have been working at Thales full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Good starting salary for an IT consulting firm
    - Better contract than most other French consulting firms ("Métallurgie" whereas most others use "Syntec")
    - Good work/life balance. Barring temporary crises, most employees do 37-40 hours a week
    - Some good opportunities to work on interesting, large-scale projects (if you're lucky)

    Cons

    - Low salary rises
    - Non-innovative tech culture
    - It's still an IT consulting firm. Consultants are basically meat.
    - Constant management changes, yearly evaluations done by a guy/gal you've never seen before and will never see again
    - Which doesn't matter, because evaluations are basically uncorrelated to salary rises

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Any advice to management would be wasted because management changes every 6 months.

    Cons

Little international involvement. Management not reactive enough to international opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Thales full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Salaries
    - Work council
    - Number of internal job opportunities around the world
    - Quality strictness

    Cons

    - Quality of your job depends on the project, team, service, entity ... in Thales Group
    - Huge and mix of pyramid-shaped/matrix hierarchical system that occurs a kind of a heavy management and internal promotions
    - Over-quality system on huge project that produce complex bureaucracy over real productivity on large V-model projects (fortunately, Agile methods can modify this perception)
    - Same for security reasons (confidentiality, data protection, internal authorizations...)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Keep an eye on Agile methods concerning documents generation, open collaborative systems, communication, transparency / feedbacks with direct clients/users, ... Too much intermediaries can block communication/feedbacks or distord indicators.
    - Be really attentive to every activities on each project of each entities. Get more feedbacks.

I have been working at Thales full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Huge group with enormous potential power and expertise (if you can leverage it).
    Career opportunities, good mentorship.
High level information technology consulting compared to market (system engineering, agile software development, etc.).
High level recruitment, technical skills are above average.
    High

    Cons

Juniors are offered salaries well over the market, but then salary evolution is more based on seniorship than on skills and performances. After few years, salaries are medium (compared to market). Extremely low bonus compared to market.
Rating surely depends highly on the service you work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Adjust salary and bonus policies to reward performances and skills.

    Recommends

I have been working at Thales full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Interesting project
    Good atmosphere
    Good Life Balance
    Good company benefits
    Good amount of training possible

    Cons

    Huge hierarchy
    No mentoring
    Glass ceiling
    Salary
    No real international mobility

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I guess it depends on the service you work force since the group is huge, anyhow I feel that I haven't received any mentorship regarding my career advancement. Nothing is really clear on how to climb the corporate ladder. Also even though HR advertises so there is no real international mobility possible

    Recommends

I have been working at Thales full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Excellent work/life balance and healthcare. Excellent physical working environment. Very interesting technical job and lot of skillful people. Good job and salary (at least for a researcher). If your manager is good enough, everything is just fine. Salary evolution is easily predicable and depends more on seniority than on competencies.

    Cons

Frustrating bureaucracy that values politics more than everything else. Informations are spreading only from people to people, it is really difficult to just work with other units. Technical strategy is laughable and changes every year, along with cosmetics changes of the heavy management structure. The information system is way more than a disaster. You must struggle a bit to do the job your paid for. Salary evolution is easily predicable and depends more on seniority than on competencies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop believing that you understand everything and use technical people to make your choices. Publish more informations about the internal projects. Improve the recruitment process to find skillful people instead of available ones.

I have been working at Thales full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - lots of holidays
    - salary is above market on my expertise
    - different businesses
    - different technologies
    - you get to travel if you want to

    Cons

    - lots of politics
    - very slow to technology changes
    - very slow to market changes
    - messy and unclear processes
    - completely outdated worktools
    - incompetent people are promoted
    - all promotions are based on who knows who or diploma

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remove - at least - 4 levels of hierarchy, stop promoting people based on a 15 year old diploma and more on their skills, modernize the IT department, study what competitors are doing - they are 15 years ahead

I have been working at Thales

    Pros

The Ce is really nice, it is a well known company and the salary is medium high.

    Cons

Not enough evolution possibilities. The management knows that if you want to evaluate you need to leave the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give better career opportunities to employees. Make them discover the power of Thales.
