I have been working at Thames Water full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Big company, loads of responsibility early on. Thrown into it all. Great to be part of a company on the up. Keeping tap water tasty and safe. Love being able to say I'm part of that.

    Cons

Massive companies take time to change. There's also a lot of layers of management which can dilute messages from the top down or bottom up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get out of the office and into the field as often as possible.

I have been working at Thames Water full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. The People. People. People. I genuinely feel that people (at all levels) care are about me as an individual and are interested to see me develop. Another good sign is that I'd be happy to go for a pint with a large majority of those I work with.

    2. The scope to get involved in so many aspects of the business from desk-based strategy to hands on operations; investment; customer service; major construction projects; regulation - the list is endless.

    3. The company genuinely feels like it is trying to change to adapt to the times - and that desire is strong across all levels from top to bottom. It feels exciting to work for at the moment.

    Cons

    1. There are slight inconsistencies in how it feels to work for the business across its breadth - but then again name a company that isn't the same.

    2. It can very often be a slow moving beast to get things done.

    3. It can sometimes be so hard to get a new idea embedded that people can give up and a good idea gets lost.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Help ensure it feels the same to work for Thames across the whole business. Exciting times ahead.

    I worked at Thames Water

    Pros

Pay structure is good and progression is achievable, training is excellent and clearly aimed at helping you progress. Good experienced people at operational level.

    Cons

Too political which can sometimes lead to a lack of focus on the prime task. Management system is a little over burdened with targets some of which are not pointed at achieving regulatory goals

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Structure the changes a little better
