    Pros

Fast paced and you get to interact with a lot of people, so if you like to network this is a good place. The people you work with are for the most part great and entertaining. It takes a great personality to work here.

    Cons

Retail hours and the job is pretty much commission based. They will make sure you get a paycheck that pays you minimum wage but if you don't exceed that, don't expect to be around long. It's retail and sales so it is like most.

    I worked at The Buckle

    Pros

The Buckle was always filled with fun people and an awesome discount on clothes. You also learned a lot about the products, and there were a few opportunities to travel and meet other employees around your district. The management program seemed like a decent route to go on if you liked the retail atmosphere and didn't mind the hours. It's a great job if you enjoy interaction and meeting new people, and the internships offered are very well worth your time.

    Cons

The company doesn't like to promote within, and I found The Buckle ignoring the potential they already had, and hiring in someone completely new that barely knew the products. The pay isn't that great, and on top of that you are always encouraged to buy the newest trends, meaning a good chunk of your paycheck went to clothes. Also, I felt like there was a lot of favoritism among the managers and employees. Additionally, I am not a fan of working on commission. During the holidays it was great because you got significantly more money, but during the slow times (almost every month besides back-to-school and holidays) you hardly made enough money to meet minimum wage. Lastly, Buckle very rarely gives pay raises, and assistant managers could work 40 hours a week and barely make enough money to pay bills. I think the management and leaders are extremely underpaid considering what they have to deal with.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote within the company more often, especially people who are already very enthusiastic about the company & love the products. Decrease turnover rate by offering raises to employees who have been loyal for a number of years.

I worked at The Buckle full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay, great discount(40%), full-time benefits such as life/health/dental/vision, 401(k), PTO, lots of opportunity for advancement

    Cons

work-life balance is horrible as they require crazy hours, the pressure to meet sales goals from manager WILL make you uncomfortable, micro-management makes your job far more hectic than it needs to be.

I have been working at The Buckle part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great way to gain experience in the sales or retail area, better than working in a minimum wage job like most college students - opportunity to earn more based on commission

    Cons

Management is way too pushy and overconfident in their sales methods, they constantly want you to be pushing customers to buy more and present them with more products which can be awkward for both you and the customer. The store I personally worked at had a very hard time with employee retention, I worked there for only 7 months and I was the employee that had been there longest other than upper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

People dont want products constantly shoved in there face, try adjusting your selling tactics - especially for stores in a college town

    Pros

fun atmosphere, nice employees, room for growth. Great discount on clothes, and flexible hours. Management is willing to train, great customer service experience.

    Cons

very competitive, does not pay for training. pay is on mostly commission, they train to badger customers sometimes. Upward movement is not easy. long process

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

pay for your training. consider letting the stores have more creative freedom instead of such strict guidelines to follow when dressing manequins
