    Alterations Seamstress Experience

    Alterations Seamstress (Former Employee)
    Colorado Springs, CO

ProsAble to work a flexible schedule.

ConsManagement was trying to dictate how/when to do the job.
There was a misunderstanding about machine maintenance
and the ability to work quickly and efficiently,
even when the "outdated" machine needed to be
replaced and slowed down production, as I was
constantly needing to repair and readjust broken parts.
Even the machine repairman said the machine was inadequate
and outdated for the job required.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to have a full understanding of time restraints
of the sewing jobs when machinery is inadequate to
    work on denim items.

    Top Notch Training

    Store Manager (Former Employee)
    Dallas, TX

Prosmanagement training program far outweighs competitors in retail fashion
    skills to handle difficult situations
managers used to have free premiums on insurance
    matching 401k plan (discretionary)
    liquid company
easy to connect with upper management (even the VP knows the name of every manager)
    pay is fantastic

Conspolitics in the Dallas market can be tough if you are not willing to participate
work life balance is very tough for managers (expect to work 50 hours a week and be looked down upon if you do not)
very poor pay for most leaders (non-managers)
too many tools to try to keep up with

Advice to Senior Managementoffer better schedules for managers and MTs

    Fun experience

    Sales Associate (Current Employee)
    Jackson, MI

ProsPerfect job for the outgoing person, 50% off all of the latest clothing, upbeat friendly environment

ConsIf you are shy this is not the job for you, you are constantly pushing people to buy things and are rejected often. It is hard to get time off.

    Good Old Fashioned Values

    OFC (Current Employee)
    Kearney, NE

ProsFriendly and caring management. Decent benefits. Family oriented.

ConsVery physical, takes its toll on your body after a while. A lot of employees have repetitive motion injuries. Low wages.

Advice to Senior ManagementWork on communication. Also, have more things for employees to do when we run out of orders.

Always changing and room for growth

    Assistant Manager (Former Employee)
    Muskegon, MI

ProsThe best reason to be employed with The Buckle is that they truly care about their employees. As a sales associate to a sales lead position, you get to choose what you want to make! It is all based on how hard you work to earn sales and overall earn your own paycheck.

ConsOn the slow days, since many entry level positions are based on commission, it was hard to earn a good paycheck.

Advice to Senior ManagementBeing in upper management (as ASM), my advice is to listen to the concerns of your staff, otherwise top performers will leave.

Entreprenurial Culture - slight changes would make it incredible

    Manager (Current Employee)

ProsWorking at Buckle you have the rare opportunity to get out what you put in. Meaning the harder(smarter) you work the more money you can make. At the manager level you are rewarded with a percentage of the net profits of your store, giving you the potential to double(or more) your salary. The path to get there and stay there is very challenging but for those who have the work ethic to overcome the obstacles and long hours there is strong incentive and excellent experience waiting.

ConsThe hours can get extremely long at times, even if you are properly staffed, because of the feeling that you are losing money anytime you are not in the store. There are some instances where upper middle management (District Level) is blind to the actions that some managers are performing consistently and others are not simply because of a personal impression of an individual, positive or negative.

Advice to Senior ManagementFirst and foremost: shift the titles in the company. It may sound petty but if the company were to give the titles that best explain an individual's responsibility it would aid in recruiting so talented individuals did not feel as though they were taking a step back. District Managers should be called Regional(20+ stores) Areas should be Districts, Store managers should be General Managers ($2.5m+) and top level Assistants should be considered Co-Managers or Department Managers. Other than that just staying as current as possible with trends and loosening the grip on a tiny little bit of profit to give top level Assistant Managers(Co-Managers) a store based incentive program (yearly bonus) so that there are two people minimum trying to maximize profitability.

One of the best jobs I've had

    Team Leader (Former Employee)
    Greenville, SC

ProsGreat people to work with, great sales training, and excellent opportunities for growth.

ConsWorking as a part-time employee only really pays off during the holidays. Unless you are paid full time its difficult bringing home a decent check other parts of the year.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore speacialty shops. Like an affliction one or obey selection and showcase could really bring more customers.

    Team Member

    Team Member (Former Employee)
    Huntsville, AL

    ProsCreative, fast paced, compensation, leadership

For retail, it is one of the best places to work. Pays well. Lots of opportunities to grow upwards within the company.

ConsCommission is tough for part-time associates just because of hours and foot traffic.

Management expects team members to "sell" a certain way. I personally think can hinder the success of team members who might lose some natural charisma trying to fit that mold and mark off those boxes.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow team members to sell in a way that encourages them to be comfortable and natural with guests.
